I know of a 16 year old who's had the procedure, it really depends on how the 'extra weight' (so sorry if this seems insensitive) affects the patient. This patient's life was a misery and the back pain made it difficult for her to do every day things. I don't know the full ins and outs of it though, but having a reduction at such a young age does happen.
