  • It depends on the university and exactly when you need a room.

When I was in halls, we had to vacate for the holidays as they rooms could be let out to anyone in that time - and it seemed to be the case for my friends in other places unless their contract specifically stated that their rooms were for their sole use for the entire accademic year.

Having had a quick look - it seems that the LSE offers halls rooms to others in the holidays - fewer halls avaliable over xmas dates: 15th December - 5th January (inclusive). I think you're going to just have to go through all the university accommodation sites to see what's on offer for the dates you need - if it's once the colleges start going back then I'd say you'll probably not have much luck.

It'll at least give you an idea of the prices anyway.

Could you not just rent a room in a shared student house? There must be a student house somewhere that is a student short?
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!

Have you tried Travelodge? There were rooms available from £19 in London after Christmas. It is unlikely you could book a whole week in one hotel at the cheap rates, but it might be worth a look.
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.
  • yup travelodge is your best bet probably and not much more expensive than halls will be in london. Friends of mine have managed to get weeks bookings from them before.
  • you could try the hostel at piccadilly - the pod one. not great for long term, but cheap! for short term it should be ok as long as you don't have lots of stuff! from £12 a night
