can anyone help with current offers on Laptops please? My daughter needs one for her Uni work but cost is an issue. She would def need minimum 1Gb of RAM and a good graphics card as she is studying Egyptology and has to use memory hungry software for the hieroglyphs etc. Wireless internet seems to come as standard and would def be a 'must have'. Hard drive minimum about 70Gb. Beyong that portability is a consideration as she spends lots of time on trains going to and from London for research purposes.
Any recomendations/help much appreciated.

15.4" widescreen. Dual core. Any named make ( not Lidl or Tesco Special Value or similar ). Named make - HP / Compaq, Acer, Lenovo etc
Spend £ 400 or so - the cheapos are a false economy in my view - Slow to the point of frustration plus you are in doo doo's if you have a problem beyond warranty.
I prefer Lenovo's myself - great value and good support for older models.
try this through Quidco for 2% off

https://www.dmxdimension.com - Dell computers, this site lists all the special offers.
I would say if you get one with Vista then 2 gb of ram would be required. You can run on less but 2gb would be better.0 -
Lenevo are good or dell, would say avoid acer (yes I'll get slated again for that) but their build quality just isn't up there.
Wouldn't worry too much about the graphics card as most onboard ones should be able to handle most software that just displays images, its when you get into image manipulation/games that you need something a little more hefty.0 -
Many many thanks for those replies, it has sorted out a few thoughts. I'll be following the links where offered.
Thanks for your time.x:T0
