O/S Daily Friday 11 October 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Still dark, sounds very blustery outside though, rain forecast also.

Dinner last night was chicken in a sauce with savoury rice with mushrooms. Tonight I'm not sure what we're having but I'll be food shopping this morning, so will get something then. It'll be something quick and easy.

Didn't really do much yesterday although did do some admin jobs, and washing and drying, must do some ironing today as need uniform for work on Monday and prefer to get that done before the weekend. Hope tonight will be a chill night and chill time into the weekend.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

    Thanks for the start nmlc.

We seem to be having respite from the rain for an hour but it's due back later. Yesterday was awful.

We have an in service day today, usually have a couple of children turn up so after they've gone home again we can get caught up with all the little jobs we don't have time for.

Hope everyone has a good day, take care. XX

    Morning all

Pouring with rain here and set in for the day I think its a bit chilly bit not too bad.

Log burner man came yesterday did a camera survey and could find nothing wrong with our chimney at all which is a relief, he did say that we could have a taller chimney pot put in to stop the smoke entering next doors chimney but that would cost £350 ! He said the other way would be for next door to light their fire so that both chimneys were warm and that should stop it, we cannot afford that sort of money to prevent something which only happens about once a year, luckily next door were understanding and happily lit their fire which stopped the problem, we had it swept too so all ok for the insurance this winter.

Work today and the difficult Friday group, I have got wine in the fridge for my Friday night treat and I shall cook a creamy garlic chicken and rice.

Ive lost 2lb this week so only 5lb to go till I am back to my pre holiday weight its still coming off slowly.

Nels how are your mum and Alexa getting on ?? are they still friends ?

    Have good days alll xx

    Good morning everyone.

Today I'll be doing a little light shopping and meeting a friend for a coffee and chat. At least that's the plan. What will actually happen is to be seen.

Yesterday I placed a small order with the frozen food place as a 'trial'. The phone service was very good and I was even told the name of the delivery driver.

I'm not ready to face the world yet! Maybe another few minutes under my duvet is needed yet.

    Happy Friday to all.
  • Good morning, it's starting to get light here, but seems damp, not cold though.

Glad you had a good day yesterday TA.
Speky, take Gers' good advice and see if it helps, hope it does.
Nanny sorry to here you're all under the weather. As taff says we all know there are people worse off than us, but that doesn't make us feel any better, you're allowed to say you don't feel well.!!

I went to the Metro yesterday and got some of the things on my list, some cord trousers for the winter. I like cords, they are warm and look a bit smarter than denim.
I'd seen a couple of basic cardigans in M&*, , but they didn't have my size in either colour, I know it's probably a popular size (12) but this is a big store in a major shopping centre.
I could order them on the internet but we're told this is putting stores out of business! What do you do for the best.
I might go to another M&S , there's a smallish one in a shopping centre near home. Ok folks, rant over !
Didn't have my lunch in Pret because when I was passing I didn't feel hungry, then when I did I was a distance away, so went into M&S caf! and had a cheese scone.

The house is in a bit of a mess, I must tidy up, and DH went over to the caravan yesterday and brought bedding home, and big fleeces, so they need washing.
There's a bit of shopping to do as well, then going to a friends house tonight.

Hope everyone has a good Friday
    Take care folks xx
  • Morning all, it is damp and dismal here and the weatherman says heavy rain (again) for much of the day. Yesterday started off damping, improved a bit and I managed to clear a flowerbed and planted some bulbs in pots, still quite a lot to do. I'm fond if bulbs, something to watch through the winter months and a bright prize at the end.

I've had a run of poor sleep, followed by a much better night last night (probably exhausted) so am feeling more human today. I need to do the Friday Tidy today, not too much to do as I'm trying to do it as the week goes by. I can't do much outside in the rain.

Bee and Emm have reduced their bulbs btw.

Hope that everyone has a decent day, thinking of those who are struggling or worried.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Hello x
Ive been busy so far have managed some dusting and cleaned the utility sink which was horrid. Now Im feeling better Im seeing my home with new eyes and am spotting dust everywhere:eek:
Ive decided against a cleaner so little and often is my new mantra!
Horrid day Molly Dog refused her walk - she is super fussy about who walks her and the weather plays a part. So I just had to get her in from the back garden - the weather is obviously different back to front! Still she is very old so I can indulge her x
    Have a good day x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • Morning everyone,

Yesterday, as I left work, I began to feel slightly better. I nipped into the SM and then had my weekly catch up with my gran, who is also going through a bit of tough time. I then had football training, the first time in months. My knee held up ok and I enjoyed it. Good to be back with the lads.

True to recent form, no gym this morning. I calculated 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep and yet I still feel like I could have slept another 9. Anyway, I'm in work and have a busy day today, including my yearly review in which I intend to tell my boss how I've been feeling of late. But now that I'm feeling a bit better, it seems to dramatic and embarrassing in hind sight. Yesterday was Mental Health Awareness Day, and seeing some stories has given me a bit more confidence to open up in work. We'll see how it goes.

Tonight, I have my family coming down for the weekend (and the dogs!!!) which I'm really looking forward to. First time I've seen them in 5 or 6 weeks, which is probably my longest stint to date. Hopefully the weather is nice and we go on some nice walks and do things. Really looking forward to it.

No spends yesterday = NSD 4/17

Gers - I appreciate your thought on over-training, which I may have agreed with a month or so ago when I was going to the gym twice a day most days, but now I've just lost enthusiasm, not that my bodies tired or asking for rest.
Taff - I do still enjoy being in Manchester, yeah. And I do still enjoy the job, despite the rough patches we're going through. It's hard to put my finger on it.
RR - Well done!! And a relief to hear the chimney is all sorted too. Nice neighbours too it seems

Morning all! Well there were apparently shennanigans here last night because the cat brought a mouse in and thanks to the state of the place [ material/jumpers/bags etc everywhere, it promptly hid itself which obviously made the cat crazy trying to look for it and the OH who was wondering what was going on.He eventually evicted both cat and mouse a couple of hours later but the cat has come back in and sniffed everywhere thinking it may have respawned like a computer game....No dice furry thing...I of course slept through all of this...
Will be taking my car for a service in about a half hour and more importantly, a new mirror so I can see when I'm parking.
After that it's put more things in bags for distribution to various places/people and the piles are gradually going down and bags piling up...I ave rediscovered some beautiful material that will be adorning chest of drawers at some point in the future, and some that will be on ebay quicker than a wink...
I also found a pair of real velvet curtains I'd forgotten I'd bought for the winter [original M&S ones]so changing the tape and letting down the hem is on the list of things to do.

redruby, good to know people can still get on when something goes wrong and resolve together :) Gers, enjoy your day, hope the delivery lives up to expectations..AOD, sorry you're not sleeping, hoping the pattern reverses itself. Molly, isn't it the way though? I stopped looking at all the clutter here until I realised I was doing exactly what my parents did [amass things that were not used]...So I missed the dust too..Good to hear you're thinking lighter Speky, hope your gram improves too...Hope everyone is doing OK who isn't up to posting...:)
    Fidgety Friday...

I had an emergency appointment at the Dr's this morning as I was still so rough. I have an infection :(. Don't think it's from the tooth removal but maybe a sinus infection on top, so on anti b's. I swear I'm rattling as I walk . Nothing needs doing so I'm in my PJ's and cwtched up on the sofa for the rest of the day. I have managed to eat some scrambled egg and there's plenty in the fridge/freezer/cupboards if Mr Fix It feels up to eating. Thank goodness for my armageddon stash, although the ibruprofen has taken a big hit !
Many thanks to those who indulged me after my miserable post yesterday :A

Speky hope you and your Gran feel better soon.
taff how did you sleep through that  ? Mind you it was probably for the best :rotfl:.
    Thinking of the MIA's.

    Hugs to all today.
    Take care
