If a debt is showing as a closed account on clear-score and you receive a debt letter does it still need paying? Can they still put a marker on you score if you don't pay the debt? Is it best to leave and not contact if it says closed account on clearscore? Or best to pay?

Yes, it still needs paying.
If it hasn't defaulted they can add a default.
You might end up with a CCJ if you don't pay it, or maybe you won't. If they go for a CCJ can you repay it within 30 days? Do you not think you should repay your debts?
More than likely it's been sold to a debt collector.0 -
Can you clarify exactly what is showing on your credit files. Is the account showing as closed with a debt balance or is it showing as a default If it is a closed account it should not still be being updated so when was it last updated. What is the status of the account over the last few reported months? This will help us to properly assess the situation.0

There's your answer.
They owe the money, the credit reporting is irrelevant.0 -
Yes it still needs paying.
I’m assuming the account on ClearScore is the lenders name and the letter is from a collection agency?0 -
Unless you have correspondence from the owner of the debt confirming that it has paid, then the debt will still need paying. If left unpaid the account will default, which will cause you grief down the line if/when it is sold on to debt collectors.0
