    No-one.
I suspect the OP isn't liking the factual answers that they are getting.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

First of all I'd like to apologise for being absolutely clueless, no ones ever taught me anything about credit scores and such so I'm a bit ignorant. Basically over the summer, I couldn't afford to pay my mobile bill. My data and calls were cut off, but I didn't really hear anything else about it. When I got my first student loan payment in September, I immediately payed my phone company a sum of 200, covering all missed payments.

    [...]

I chatted to an adviser from the phone company and told him everything, he apologised and said it would be sorted and I wouldn't hear from the company anymore. However, a few days later, a few more missed calls. I haven't heard anything in maybe a week, but when I checked my credit score a few minutes ago, it had dropped by 178.

I'm pretty upset because I had just got it out of poor and into fair, and now I'm at the bottom end of poor. Is this due to the debt collection company? What steps can I take next and what if anything can be done about it? I appreciate anyone who takes a minute to offer any advice

If you were £200 in arrears I'd guess you didn't pay your mobile phone bill for several months. At least three or four months if it was a top of the range phone/plan?

That will be recorded on your credit files and will likely affect the scores given to you by the CRAs.

The additional £68 may be made up of late payment and debt collection charges.

I don't think it's unfair or unreasonable to rate people who don't pay bills for several months 'poor'.

It’s not really a mistake. You didn’t pay your bill and that’s been accurately recorded. Paying late is not a good thing.

Wow, this forum is so unhelpful. I'm fully aware that my credit score would have dropped but I'm a 21 year old student who was made homeless over Christmas, during summer I had to choose between paying my phone bill or paying rent. I am now being chased up for a fee that I DO NOT OWE, and I am simply wondering if the fact that the debt collection company now has me on their records for something the phone company admits was a mistake could also negatively affect my score. That is literally all I am asking. I don't know how many times I have to repeat this, it seems like people are just so desperate to be negative that they're incapable of reading. I'm not trying to deny I didnt pay my bills or get out of a debt. Please reread this until you understand. I'm not upset at any answers, but one that actually answers my question would be ideal.

It's been answered several times already, but I'll give it one more go.

Because the score is not connected to your credit worthiness, if something has been put onto your credit files by the DCA, it may have affected your score positively, negatively or not at all.

Your "score" isn't being impacted by the account being in the hands of a DCA, it's because you went into arrears on the account over the summer.

When I got my first student loan payment in September, I immediately payed my phone company a sum of 200, covering all missed payments.

A few days after that, I got an email from them saying I owed £68, and if they don't receive the payment a debt collection company would be notified and my credit score would be affected. I clicked on the link provided and checked my account, but they both said I was up to date and didn't need to pay anything at the moment. However, soon after I started receiving calls from a debt collection company. I never got to answer any of the calls because I'm always either working or in uni and just missed them.
