ESA Support Group.

I sent my daughters ESA claim form on 30th August and have proof of delivery a few days later. She has only had one ESA face to face since moving from Incapacity.

Today I received a letter from our regional jobcentreplus.
"We have looked at your claim again following a recent change. This is because of a decision on your capabilty for work. You have been placed in the support group Your ESA will be £112.08 a week from 28th September 2019"

The ESA rate is the one my daughter currently receives and she has always been in sg under ESA.

I'm wondering if she has had a paper based assessment as they used to do rather than face to face. Can anyone advise if it could be the case? As her appointee I don't want to say anything to her until I'm sure of the facts.

It looks as if that is what has happened. The information in the latest ESA50 you returned has been compared to previous information and a decision made that a face to face interview is not required. Nothing to worry about and you don't need to contact ESA.

This is what I was thinking but was wary saying anything before checking in case I'd got the wrong idea. This is because of a decision on your capability for work could only be tied to the return of the form.

It doesn't give a time period for assessing again so not sure if there will be a letter to follow.

Thank you for swift input , very grateful.

There's no timescales on ESA decision letters. If you ring ESA they will tell you how long approximately but this is just a guide they can re-assess you anytime from 3 months.

I'm guessing that the OP's daughter has a condition which is either unlikely to improve, or will take a long time to improve. Those are the type of claims where a paper based reassessment is most often made. If that is the case, it will probably be a couple of years until the next ESA50 drops through the letterbox. As poppy says, there is no absolute rule on this.
  • Had exact same letter, put back into the support group took just over three weeks, last ESA was seven years ago again that was paper based.
