Normal to pay for car insurance without being sent the policy?

No signed agreement. They want the person to send the money first. Is this normal?

Comments

  • And who is they? Some stranger broker from social media or similar? Is this policy even real, who is insurer and/or underwriter?

    Probably scam.

Yes it's normal, I've always had to pay before receiving policy docs they are not going to put you on risk and send you an Insurance Certificate if you've not paid. What signed agreement are you expecting?

The only exception I can think of is auto renewal by card, where they often collect the premium a little in arrears.

You can usually view generic policy terms and conditions on line.

    HOWEVER:-

How did the "person" contact the insurer? Are they suspicious it's a fake insurer or ghost broker, if not and they know it's a genuine company what's the issue?

I don't think I've signed an agreement for around 10 years.

Normally I will choose my insurance online, pay for it, and then have access to the documents online immediately or wait a day or two for them to arrive in the post.

I haven't signed an agreement with an insurance company for decades, possibly ever. Doesn't everyone do it online these days?

Yes it's perfectly normal, you go to the insurers website, put in your details, get your credit card out, they Email you the certificate and policy books. If it's a real old school company they might even post you a dead tree copy as well, a few days after you've paid.

However yes, what are the actual details? Is someone the persin found on Facebook wanting cash? If so, keep a bargepole handy.

Pretty much same for me, been driving for nearly 20 years and don't ever recall signing anything.

Pay for it and it's emailed straight away, isn't this the same for everyone?
