Cat N retention and DVLA for V5C Logbook

Hi everyone,
Recently my used (but perfectly and briallianty working) car's offside wing mirror got destroyed in a hit and run, along with a few scratches. I filed a claim with my insurer and it got declared total loss Category N (uneconomical to repair). As I like the car and the only important repair is the wing mirror (~£400), I settled for a salvage retention: I kept the car and took the payout by the insurance, so that I can repair the wing mirror myself.
Question: in the rather standardized email I received from the insurance, they say "Please note your vehicle will remain classified a "Total Loss" and will stay on both the MIAFTR and HPI registers. You will need to contact the DVLA to obtain a new V5C document in order to renew your vehicle tax.". However, on the DVLA website they say "You can keep the log book if you want to keep a category D or N vehicle".
Anyone knows what I have to do? Do I have to declare it to DVLA or not and change the logbook for this vehicle tax renewal?
UPDATE: took me 20 seconds to request an updated logbook on the DVLA web-chat. Neverming. Should have done it BEFORE resorting to ask the question here. I apologise.
