We paid £3600 for the same works in London, cheapest quote we got. Some quoted 7-8k for the same job.

On the topic of PCBs, this is a common problem on these older boilers. I wouldn't replace the boiler unless absolutely necessary. It will take a long time to recover the costs from gas savings.

If you have a friendly electronics engineer friend, you could ask them to replace all the electrolytic capacitors on the board and if possible construct a small heat shield to protect the circuit board.

The capacitors Potterton used are not high temperature versions so they get leaky over time and cause faults. I planned to replace the board in mine when it kept playing up, but changed all the electrolytics first (about 6-8 of them) with high temp versions. I added a strip of heat shield (Ebay from performance car upgrade sellers as the stuff is used to wrap manifolds etc) and the board worked perfectly for many years on.

Cost of parts less than a fiver. But you do need to know how to use a soldering iron!

Edited to say just found this post (not me) but similar thread ..

    I paid about £2000.
    That included:

    Hive installation
    Removal of old boiler, tanks.
Making sure gas supply (pipe) is a big one (small ones not allowed any more)
Installation of Ideal boiler (I asked about Worcester Bosch but the installer said they're all pretty much the same these days)
Boiler condensate pipe went outside and down the side of the house to the nearest drain.
Some other bits (new hole in the wall, old hole blocking up)

Was pretty happy with the price.

British Gas seemed to have started this £3k for a boiler lark and then the other gas people seem to have followed their example. £2k is more than a new boiler should cost. If you ever want a boiler mended though tell them you want a quote for a new boiler and then ask them about fixing your old one. Because of the £3k lark If they hear the words "new boiler" they will be at the front door in seconds. If they hear "fix boiler" they will be too busy to attend.
