In IE, having selected "stop sending keystrokes to Bing", why do suggestions from Bing override what I have typed as the web address I want to reach. This happens when I try to go to tfl.gov.uk.

Keystrokes are not the same thing as a URL prediction service. You can turn that off via the Browser settings. You can also change your Search provider.0

Thanks. I'll have a look.
So typing in the correct address still gets me a Bing page instead of the address I've put the the address bar because the thing predicts I want to use Bing rather than go direct.
I certainly don't get the problem when I use Chrome.0 -
