Car Insurance - Payment not taken

I received a text message yesterday saying that my car insurance renewal payment had failed. I've got a new card on the account the payment was coming from, so no panic. Phoned and made the payment, insurance confirmed for another year.
About 20 mins later i got a call from my insurer informing me that according to their systems, no payment had been taken for my previous year's cover. Would i mind checking my account to see if a payment had debited my account and if so sending them proof ?
I've now checked my account and it does appear that they are correct, no payment was debited from my account.
Does anyone know where i stand if i refuse to pay this ? It doesn't take a genius to figure out what the insurer would have done if this error had come to light as a result of my making a claim...

You'd stand with additional fees being added, debt collection activities being started against you and ultimately, a CCJ.
I'd also start looking for a new insurer.0 -
They will take legal action against you to recover last years premium so unless you want the costs to escalate I suggest you pay up. And you would be wrong on your thoughts that they wouldn't cover you if you had a claim.
You don't get a years free insurance because of an error.......on both your parts.0
