Options
Hi, this is my first post so i thank you in advance for all you help, I am a a bit confused by Britiah Gas bill, I moved out of my property on the 15th Dec 2006, I have a statement saying i was £40 in credit on the 16th Nov, to being £154.45 in debit on the 15th dec. How could i have used so much when i have always been in credit on the a/c. can any one work out price per kilowatt as i have meter readings and i need to make sure they are correct.

    Hi,

Your price per Kwh will be on your bill (Kwh is just your units)

Did you take a meter reading when you moved out? If so, have they used it? If not, they may have over estimated your final bill.

It doesn't sounds right basd on what you have said however how much do you normally pay per quarter?

  • Don't have the bill with me to check, however was always in credit on the a/c with £20 d/d p/m. they have a meter reading as of 26th sept 5785 (estimate), were as i have a statement with mtr reading of 5180(what we gave them) on 16th Nov 2006, unfortuntley all this did not come to light until march and they now say we that the meter reading taken in dec is 6165 but we cannot remember if that was what we have given them!! they have said they have changed databases and one person has said that there is a problem because info has been lost and another person we have spoken to has said that this is correct, without the proof have i got a leg to stand on. I have lost the bill so does anyone know were on britisg gas we can check the kw rate..thanks

So, BGas believe that you have used 985 units in a month (11820 approx a year!)32.38 units approx a day. Does that sounds right to you?

That is very high. It doesn't sound right at all.

As far as BGas and their systems. Ok, they have moved system but as far as data - it's not your problem. They should have retained a decent history, if not, not your problem, thats their incompetance.

Do you have any bills? If so, it may be posible to understand your consumption more.

Any readings taken by a meter reader will be held by the Data Collector (who are a seperate entity to BGas) so thy could retrieve those. If you gave them a customer own reading (COR), they have to send that to the Data Collector so there may be a record with them if BGas can't find theirs.

Did the following tenant stay with BGas? If so, have BGas got anything off them that is lower than 6165 proving this reading to be incorrect? Or maybe a meter readers reading after you left that it lower then 6165 proving this to be incorrect?

If you have a bill for 5180, those are your unit prices (Kwh prices) - unless there was a price increase between Nov & Dec. So, to work out the bill, just deduct 5180 from 6165 giving you 985 units (Kwh) and times this by your unit charge on that bill. Then add the standard charge based on 1 month (divive by 3 on your bill). This would be the final bill, then deduct any monthly payment you can see from your bank account.

You need to sort the final reading though more than anything as it seems high. They can send you a copy bill. If the reading on that bill is an estimate, get them to change it.

Bit difficult to say more without knowing more about your monthly/quarterley usage.
