cold water tank - do i need one? please tell

hi there,

I am renovating a 1930s house which has no central heating as such. currently there is a hot water tank in the bathroom with a cold water tank below it both in a cupboard in the bathroom. I am getting a combi boiler installed and understand I can remove the hot tank as this is no longer needed. Can I also get rid of the cold water tank?. What purpose will this serve. Also if i need to keep it can it be moved to the loft and is this an easy job?

many Thanks for any advice you can give

You can do away with the cold water tank with a combi boiler. My parents have recently had a combi boiler fitted. Cold water tank was removed.
They did have a small hot water tank fitted, so they could have a backup immersion heater.

  • thanks ozkin. fairly small property 2 up 2 down. does that mean I dont need a cold or hot tank(sorry if this is obvious) . Will the water come straight in from the mains

Water will come straight from the mains to the hot water system in the boiler and then to the hot water tap.

The hot water will be at a higher pressure than if supplied from a tank.

Where as you would not draw drinking water from from a hot tap in a system with tanks (to fill a kettle) you could with a combi.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • thanks guys (or girls) lots of helpful info
