I bought a shirt online at the end of June. I ordered the shirt, and selected the same size (XL) that i had previously selected (several times) foir that brand.
When the package arrived, i opened it to check that the item was correct, and all appeared to be ok (although i didnt physically try it on).
I recently put it on for the 1st time, and it is significantly larger than my other shirts (same brand/size).
Going by the brand's size guide, my size, XL, is 44-46 chest. Upon measuring the shirt myself, it measures 52", which according to their guide is a 3XL (50-52). It is also 2" longer than my other shirts of the same brand/size.
Upon contacting their customer service, they've told me that the shirt is a 'relaxed fit' (which im almost certain, wasnt in the item description), and basically tough luck because i'm outwith the 28 days to return it
Do i have any recourse here, or can anyone point me in the direction of where i can find out?
I realise im at fault for assuming the shirt was ok without trying it on, but i feel like a difference of 6"/15cm in size is a lot more than just a difference in fit/style, it's either been a fault in production, or wrongly tagged.
Anyone give any advice, or will i just need to suck it up?
Hope this all makes sense, and ive posted in the right place!

Distance Selling Regs dictate a 14 day cancellation period by law. The trader's T&C's have increased this to 28 days judging by your post.
This can be increased up to three months and seven working days after delivery if you were not given durable confirmation of certain information, and written confirmation of your right to cancel. However, chances are this would be buried in their T&Cs that you 'agreed to' when purchasing.0 -
Does the product being, imo, faulty, rather than just changed my mind, make any difference?0

The product is not faulty, as there is nothing wrong with it, but it may have been mislabelled and so an incorrect size was supplied. Unless their XL are now being made in a bigger size!If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
-
Maybe faulty is the wrong word, but what i have received is not what i ordered, according to their website's size guide.0

Clutching at straws a bit I'm afraid. Same manufactures shirts in the same size are not always going to be exact same when worn. They may, as a goodwill gesture, give you a credit note.....if you ask nicely.0

The Distance Selling Regulations no longer apply in UK law. The Consumer Contracts Regulations now apply and have done for years.0 -

If that was on the actual product page rather than a general guide for the whole site then I'd suggest you have valid cause for complaint and would point out that you are not cancelling your order but rejecting it as the size doesn't match the description.
Take a screenshot of the page and send them that along with a photo of the shirt and tape measure.
If it wasn't on site try contacting the brand direct (Facebook maybe) and see what they say.
The brand may offer something as goodwill. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -

A size XL is designed to fit a chest which measures 44-46 inches, not measure 44-46 inches - unless you want the Incredible Hulk/ ripped shirt look.
I've just measured a couple of my husband's size M (to fit 38-40 inch chest) shirts and they both measure 45 inches - a 5 inch difference from a 40 inch chest. Therefore a 52 inch wide shirt sounds perfectly reasonable at 6 inches bigger than a 46 inch chest.
Here's the Marks and Spencer mens shirt size guide which should explain it for you.

The other shirts i have in same size/brand measure 46".
Seems like i dont have much comeback here, though. Thanks for the replies.0
