Disabled premium ESA

Hi all I’m looking for some advice please. I’ve been in support group ESA ( not income related), for quite some years, since incapacity benefit days! Anyway I’m up for review and have a WCA next week so I’ve been looking online for guidance, what happens if etc.
I came across the DWP site that mentioned I’d you get mid rate care DLA ( which I do) there would be a top up on your esa each week.
I’ve NEVER had this, I’ve had the living expenses £73.10, extra money because I’m in support group £37.65, and because it’s contribution based 10p (!). Altogether £110.85 per week ( although it’s slightly higher now since the April increase)
Can anyone knowledgable tell me if I should’ve been getting the disability premium and how ( if so) I can look at it?
I’m possibly going to lose it next week anyway due to the fact they find so many people suddenly fit for work who haven’t been for years!
Thank you

  • Thought premiums only came with income based, you say you're on contributions based.

Do you live with a partner that works? If so then you won't be entitled to any income related top up on your Contributions based ESA.

I’m 100% the same as you, on ESA (Contribution Based & Support Group) & DLA (Mid rate Care & High rate Mobility).

I’ve never had any premiums & always thought it was for High Rate Care & or Income Based.

I had to reapply for ESA in January but was only called for a WCA last month and I’m still awaiting to here from that (I’ve had a few now and nothing has changed, but it’s a worry & stressful) however this weeks ESA credit to my back account had the reference of JSA and not ESA and normally.....

Also in September I had to apply for PIP because my DLA was being stop at the end of September if I didn’t....so I did that (double stress & worry), but I didn’t have a face-to-face just a phone called and today got my confirmation letter confirmation; I’m now in High rate for both care & mobility.....

So I don’t know if now there’s any Premiums I can now apply for, again I doubt it since I’m not on Income Based ESA, but I’m following this thread just in case...

    To the OP.

There are two potential disability premiums available to you:
    Enhanced - https://www.gov.uk/disability-premiums-income-support/what-youll-get; and
    Severe - https://www.gov.uk/disability-premiums-income-support/eligibility:

    https://www.entitledto.co.uk/help/disability-premiums-in-benefits

As shel says to receive these premiums you need to be eligible for payment of an income-based benefit.
"A Severe Disability Premium is an extra amount that is included in some means-tested benefits to help with the cost of disability....."

    What are your circumstances?
Would you qualify for an income-based top up to your contribution-based ESA?

That will depend on what ESA you reapplied for. If it was New style ESA then no premiums are paid on this because it's Contributions based only.

If it was the old ESA then whether you'll receive any of the premiums will depend what ESA you're claiming and your circumstances.

I’ve been claiming ESA since April 2010 (when I had to stop work).

I was originally in the WRAG (Contribution Based) and afternoon about 12 month had review and was placed in the Support Group (Contribution Based) & have been in that ever since, it was reviewed again in June 2016 and had another WCA then, again still placed in the Support Group; then had another review in January this year but only had the WAC last month, so still awaiting to hear the outcome of that.

So; I think I’m in the Old Style ESA or do you get moved when it’s reviewed....?

That will be the old style contributions based and the premiums aren't paid on any contributions based. The premiums (Income related top ups) can be added to this but whether you qualify will depend on your circumstance... savings/capital, living with partner that works, income from pensions etc.

How much ESA do you receive per week? and does anyone claim carers allowance for looking after you and do you live alone, or classed as living alone?

For the second time this week I stand corrected, my brain has turned to mush again !

I live with my elderly mother, she is a pensioner (gets state pension), she used to claim CA but that stop when she stated getting her pension.

I have an ill health pension, so my ESA is reduced slightly because my pension is over £85 a week. I also have some savings so doubt I’d be entitled to any Income Based element.

Your pension will be counted as income £1 for £1 when calculating any income related top ups (premiums). With a pension of more than £85 per week this will mean you won't be entitled to any Income Related top up.
