I was out in Silver End in Essex the other day and saw this speed camera set back in an entrance to a new housing estate focused on the start of the 30mph limit I have never seen these before are the new?

What makes you think it's a speed camera?

Not a speed camera, zooming in it looks like it has got a speaker grill towards the bottom. I wonder if it is some sort of entry control system for when they were building the development (probably now redundant).

Apart from anything else, the police are unlikely to leave a speed camera sitting about on a tripod waiting to be stolen.

Far more likely to be security CCTV, perhaps with ANPR, for the building site.

It'd be an utterly pointless place to put a speed camera, if nothing else, and it certainly won't be police, because it's private land.
  • This is mobile motion detection CCTV. It is not a speed camera. :)

Looks like the blue and yellow checker board pattern has worked in convincing at least one person it is a police installation.

    Thats the whole point.

Convinced enough it was a police speed camera to start a thread.
