Smallest overdraft Barclay's did 1999-2000?

Options
Hi Guys,

The title is the question but let me give you some context.

I like many others in the last minute rush to log a PPI complaint before the deadline went through everything i have bank / loan / CC wise for the last 20 years.

PPI complaints are being looked into now and i'm waiting for decisions.

Anyway while i was reading the message boards I came across a thread on reclaiming miss sold package bank accounts. This reminded me of a package account i upgraded to with Barclays ( Barclays additions )because i was told it was the only way to have an overdraft with them.

I have only recently found out from reading on here that it's not true and that i could have had an overdraft on my original Fee Free account.

I filled in a complaint form on Resolver and good enough Barclays responded straight away and within 3 weeks i had a decision.

The decision was that it was not upheld because:

"" You previously had an overdraft facility on your account which you used and had been charged a fee for before you upgraded in December. As such I believe you where aware of the benefits of the account and they where of use to you

You held a fee free account since July 1998 before you took this package bank account in December 2000, highlighting you likely knew you didn't have to upgrade your account""

Now to the best of my knowledge i never had an overdraft before upgrading to an Additions account like they suggest and when i called them today to ask them to clarify they could not tell me how much the overdraft was or any of the fees relating to the overdraft.

Here is where it gets interesting, in the 8 months i held the account before upgrading to an Additions account i went into a negative balance just once and it was -£91.40

9 days after my negative balance there is a £20 fee on my account for UNAUTHORISED OVERDRAFT

The very nice lady on the phone said it dose indeed seem conflicting to have an unauthorised overdraft charge while using an account that allegedly has an over draft.

She could not factually explain it or confirm how much my overdraft was for.

I put it to here that maybe they had made a mistake in thinking i had an overdraft because that is not my recollection of it.

She put it to me that it might have been a very small overdraft eg: £50 and i have simply exceeded it.

While the decision to not uphold my complaint seems to totally hinge on the fact that I had an overdraft on my account prior to upgrading to an Additions account it seems that getting this point right is of importance.

So after all the waffling dose anybody happen to know what the smallest overdraft Barclay's offered in 2000?

Really appreciate any info anyone has.

Regards

intempo

This does seem like the most likely explanation.

Do remember that, in 1998, £50 was worth far more than it is now. So not a "small" overdraft at all..

You are, of course, at liberty to ask your Bank what your overdraft limit was 21 years ago-but I doubt such action will result in any refund or reversal of your complaint rejection.
