Barclays stopping money withdrawals from Post Offices

Barclays has announced it will no longer let people withdraw money via the Post Office. They are claiming it is to save money. I suggest people who bank with Barclays immediately use a 7 day switch to another bank to preserve this right and to support our Post Offices even if you don't normally need to use them.

Society is going cashless, don't see why anyone would use cash these days tbh.0

For some small businesses it just isn't worth it.
I belong to a number of groups who collect subs in cash only. Again, using cards is not worth it.
Then there's the coffee mornings, lunch groups, and annual carnival (I'm treasurer).
That's apart from the small purchases where I can hand over the correct amount and be away quicker than waving the card at the terminal and putting the card away again.Eco Miser

The Post Office (Bank of Ireland) are closing all their current accounts. Elderly neighbour (90 years) who got his SP every week and withdrew cash with a simple card account now has to open an account with another Bank. I better make sure it is not Barclays! https://www.postoffice.co.uk/current-accounts0

I use cash, for all my groceries, and spending money etc for each week. I like that I can go to my post office and take out my money and pay in as there is no Barclays branch where I live and isn't one for 45 miles.0

Just out of curiosity, when faced with Barclays hindering your ability to access cash, is your instinctive reaction (a) how can I reduce my reliance on cash or (b) how can I get access to alternative sources of cash to preserve the status quo? Seems to me that both entail some change and/or compromise....Just a single mum, working full time, bit of a nutcase, but mostly sensible, wanting to be Mortgage free by 2035 or less!0

I know I'm a little late to the party - I visited my local PO for other purposes this week, and asked them what they received for the cash withdrawal - a percentage commission or a fee. It's a flat fee of 7 pence. I then discussed the matter with them, and made 20 £1 cash withdrawals. and when I got home made a complaint to Barclays, explaining that I shall continue to do so until they either reconsider and reinstate the option, or I switch my Barclays account in the new year. It doesn't impinge on me, because I live in city with plenty of places to obtain case but those in rural areas, and / or those who are unable to use an ATM are going to be massively affected by this. I'd suggest anyone else wanting to make a point does something similar. I appreciate that this probably isn't going to have any impact on their decision, but at least I feel I'm doing something positive.0
