Help with cancelled car insurance

Hello need some advice on my car insurance.
I took car insurance out on Thursday night as was panicking i wouldn't have any for work the next day.
I've been away over the weekend and come Monday i receive an email saying they have cancelled my insurance because they said i ran full quotes on two different job roles which i do both of them anyway and they stated i was trying to manipulate the system and saying each one had different prices which ive checked and they are exactly the same.
After i told them the price was the same they tried to come up with other excuses for cancelling the policy.
They now say i owe them for cancellation, 43.96 for Insurer cost and £100 cancellation charge, they said they will take this from the 104 deposit i paid so i still owe them 39.
Are they allowed to do this, on the policy it says i have to check the document over and contact them asap if i need to change anything which i haven't had the chance to do before they cancelled as i didn't look until Monday at the document.
I've logged a complaint with the FOS and will make a complaint internally.
If i don't cancel and pay them the £39 before Monday it will be voided and i will then have to put on any new insurance i've had a policy voided which will put my insurance up £600 a year.
Can anyone offer any other advice i can take forward to the car insurance company.
