Wireless Adapter - Can I use any with a Livebox

Hello,

We've been having real problems connecting to the internet this week - with the connection dropping in and out every few seconds. I decided to drag the desktop upstairs and connect it to the Livebox with the ethernet cable. You'll guess by the fact I'm typing this that it works perfectly!!!!

Does this mean its time for a new wireless dongly thing? And can I just buy any old one and plug & play with the livebox?

Yes any make of adaptor will work but you may simply be getting interference from another wireless set-up nearby that has been installed recently. Try changing the wireless channel (1-13).

Thanks...I did try the channel thing earlier, but it didn't make any difference.

Did you get your live box to work.If so how .
been having the same problems - works on laptop with built in wireless and on computer with ethernet cable.
Bought vivanco wireless adaptor doesnt light up I cant even get the software to download it stops part way through - checked out at work by an expert who culd not get it to pick up internet signal ( they managed to down load it on another system not the one on the cd). Took it back to Aldi who wont exchange or refund as over 30 days old ( what a load of rubbish)
Rand Orange who said i had to buy one of their adaptors ( sounds like another load of rubbish.
Wires everywhere.
Anyone any ideas - whats the channel thing you can change.
non techy answers please as a limited mind ability to understand that sort of thing. Thank you im sure someone will help

You won't get your wireless adaptor to work unless you successfully download and install the driver before plugging the device into the computer. Where did you try to download the device driver from?

Rang up vivanco they said download from site ive managed to do that by installing winRARs o now the adapter is installed green light on yipee!
The computer toolbox shows a red computer and that it is scanning . Channels were different and I managed to change them and they are all no. 1 now - i got the green computer for a second and thought that had solved everything but no boo hoo its gone back to red. Any ideas please ?

Thanks for a quick reply , ive been trying to get the tool box to show the ed computer again as it disappeared when i logged out (wanted to see if the green light would stay on and it did) .
The information on the grey box shows under these headings

STATUS - encryption wep
CONFIGURATION box not ticked (all info in faded grey)
PROFILE encryption (wep) disable
Dont know what any of this means or if you need any other info to help. Thanks for looking.

Not familiar with that particular USB adaptor but unless you enter the WEP encryption key, you will not be able to communicate with the Livebox. Enter Livebox into the search box on this webpage here
