Estate agent can't get hold of Landlord!

I put in an offer on a place first thing friday morning, the estate agent told me they would call him and get back to me later in the day.
I never heard anything friday or saturday, rang first thing on monday only to be told that they have not managed to get in touch with landlord and have rang him and emailed him to no avail.
It is now tuesday afternoon and still not heard anything back.
Is this normal for landlords to be hard to contact as they are losing out on money! The estate agent picks up a fee of £650 if they can set tenant up for landlord , so find it hard to believe that they are not trying to get in touch!
This is my first rental that i am going into so just looking to see if this is common practice or not!

If the landlord is this hard to get hold of, it's a not a property I would want to be involved in. Anything goes wrong in need of repair and they need landlord's permission first, well.0

It is quite common for landlords to be difficult to get hold off. They can be overseas, even living in parts of the world where telecommunication only work sporadically. As Marvel1 says treat this problem as warning of what things will be like in future. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

Yeah cheers guys . I did think that as there are a few things that need to be sorted in the accom before moving in , so can only imagine how long it will take him to sort that out !0

Not a great start is it really??....0

If there are things you have noticed that need attention before you move in, you can guarantee there will be more things noticed after you have moved in (and as neither LL nor EA have tried to get property in letting condition before viewings, personally, I'd expect them to be as lapsadaisical about getting repairs done during the tenancy).
Find something else.0 -
If you DO go ahead, and want those items fixed/replaced, get confirmation in writing, along with a timescale (before the tenancy starts, within 1 week/10 days of the tenancy, whatever).
Don't rely on verbal assurances.0 -
If you can't get hold of the landlord and there are things that need some attention then this is not the property for you. Find something else.0

Thanks all for you sound advice.
The Landlord finally got back to them yesterday and wants full price , even though its been sat empty for a month and he has not fixed the problems.
So of course I said not interested and it is good learning curve for me going forward looking rental, cheers all!0 -
