Hi - we've damaged the door in our rented house and need to get it repaired.
I've had a quote of £150, which is only £50 more than the excess the insurance company would expect us to pay.
should i claim through insurance, or just pay for the repair?

I fail to see the point in having insurance if you do not claim on it when needed.0

I'm guessing that in this case it is the £50 payment could be more than offset by an increase in next year's premium. (Not saying it would be but that the OP may be wondering - and also the time involved in needing to get more quotes or use specifically approved repairers.)0 -
yup - exactly that. Sorry - should have been more clear in my original question.0

Will you have tenants insurance next year? If not, claim and save the £50. If you will, not worth the potential price rise. Maybe you could attain some quotes as if you claimed on the insurance to determine the price difference.0

The point in this case is the excess is almost as much as the repair. This is the purpose of the excess, to discourage small claims, but still allow for major claims.I fail to see the point in having insurance if you do not claim on it when needed.
For a £50, I wouldn't bother claiming on the insurance. IT will hike your premiums for the next several years and likely end up costing more in the long run.0
