O/S Daily Tuesday 8 October 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was scampi, chips, beans for the menfolk, I had baked fish and veg. Tonight will be chicken and mushroom lattice, mash, veg and gravy. Hairdresser is coming tonight so will be a bit later meal.

Work yesterday was busier than expected, and we had several complicated enquiries and then a few other problems but got sorted in the end. I'm working at the other office today, so that will be a nice change.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Blustery this morning with rain thrown in, the children will probably be kept in all day again which makes for an interesting day!

Not much happening here, all the baby clothes are washed, took me an age to put them all on the airer, they can be finished off in the TD when I get in later. Also did a white load of my own, that's on the rack in the laundry but can take its time to dry.

DS2 is back from New York, seems to have had a good time. They are coming over here next week for a short visit, hopefully after the DGC have gone home!

Hope everyone's well, have a good Tuesday. Take care. XX
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC for the start off. All is calm outside, no wind and no rain! Yesterday we got off lightly with just odd drizzly spells. Today sounds similar with the promise of sun this afternoon! Wow!

I had a nice wander round the little market town yesterday, gathering all the items on my list as I went. Most important being the long burning t lights from Home B's. I like to have them twinkling away these dark and dismal nights.

No Tuesday coffee and lunch meet up today as my DF is away on a coach trip with her DH. I shall be tripping off with my bus buddies tomorrow so I will not be entirely deprived of a nice lunch out!

I really should put the free day to good use and tackle more neglected jobs. But will I!!

I have just got a nice piece of smoked haddock out to defrost for my tea, will top with a poached egg. That means no egg for brekkie (don't want to get egg bound as my gran used to say!!) so I will have porridge and berries instead. Lunch will be the usual bagel or wrap with some of my hm soup. (Bag of lentil and bacon also out defrosting in readiness)

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need including the MIA. Take care all x

    Morning all

Not raining here atm and none due today, I think its back tomorrow with a vengeance and off and on for most of the week ! Its typical autumn weather chilly and damp.

Off to work today we had some news yesterday that we have been given £125k towards an extension on our cafe we need to raise the same amount but already have £40k so we are on the way, it will double the size of it in a massive wrap around conservatory so we will be able to have and help many more clients its brilliant news !!

pork fillet for dinner tonight will do a baked sweet potato and salad with it, I think OH is staying off today (he has a horrible cold) so I will get him to prep it.

Right better get on have good days all xx
  • Good morning, it's stopped raining , and looks quite fine-seems windy though. I might get some washing out.

I've just got up, it's late for me. I've got the annoying habit of being awake for several hours in the night then falling asleep about 4-5am. As a result I CBA with anything, and felt like hiding under the duvet all day, Can't be done though, Dgs will be here for his usual Tuesday visit, he could keep Rip Van Winkle awake.

Glad you had a good day yesterday TA, I like tealights and candles as well. TK Ma*x have lovely candles, much nicer than supermarket ones.

I'm drinking strong coffee to wake myself up a bit, go to pull myself together some how.

Hope everyone has a good day, thinking of the poorly people, and those struggling with life

    Take care folks xx

    Morning all.

Blustery here too. Unless the weather dries up the window cleaner won't be coming today. Despite the pleas of his wife, family and clients he refuses to have a mobile so it's a case of looking outside to see if his car is there.

Congrats redruby - that's such good news. I hope that fundraising goes well.

I should go into town today, there's a bank I have to visit though it depends on the window cleaner. It's important that I keep active and do some walking, it's more like hobbling really. There's a great Scots word 'hirple' (rhymes with purple) which more accurately describes my gait!

Now I wish everyone a happy Tuesday.

Morning all, seems a better day today but it's not a good forecast for the rest of the week. I thought I'd pop into town on the bus in an hour or so.I know I need something but can't remember what atm :D I feel the need to escape my messy house, there are tools all over the kitchen.DH has fixed a radiator down at the dining table end, it's under a conservatory style roof and door so it will certainly benefit from extra heat in winter :j, the one for the cloakroom hasn't been delivered yet. Our plumber friend will connect up once it's all ready but I can't put 'stuff' back in the big boiler cupboard till that's done.

I see the forum is to be re-styled and moved next year, hope it remains friendly and old style still has a home :)
Tea tonight is either bacon chops or pork fillet in the fridge - I'll decide later.I made a very quick tomato soup yesterday, tin of toms, & puree ,some soft cheese, stock cube and herbs all whizzed up.DH enjoyed it,tomato soup isnt my fave but is his and he was hungry - it was quite acceptable and took about 5 minutes :rotfl:
Good news about your cafe RR
SR, my sleep is a bit like that too :(
    Keep 'hirpling' Gers :)
Glad you enjoyed your trip TA
Camelot I can just imagine all those tiny things being put on the airer takes ages :)
    Thanks for the start nmlc
Right I shall make a move, enjoy your day folks x

Morning all! Day 2 in the Big Messy House approacheth...Today I am going to make a dent in all the bits of paper, bits of tat, fiddly little things that seem to accumulate in baskets for which there is no permanent home and will also be seeing if I can return any of the medication I didn't use while I was on it.
Weather is blustery, we'll be having beef stew again tonight, I can't seem to make less than six portions of anything for some reason. OH will enjoy it though, after sepnding a day without food for his colonscopy he was raring to devour some yesterday. He'll get results in three weeks.

We're also going to watch The Joker today and I'll be going to the KNitting and Stiching show at Ally Pally this Sunday, with a side trip to Ikea with friends tomorrow, so am also busy socialising and catching up.
My aim is not to buy anything in Ikea and only to buy some wool on USnday because I lost the scarf/snood thing I made the last time I went to the cinema and I really like having my neck warm, so need to make another one...

brilliant news redruby! Hope you amass some money quickly to match that! camelot, i have enough weariness finding he matching sock when I put them on the line, so many little things to handle! TA I think I'd burn the house dow were I to put out any tealights, there's just too much flammable stuff strewn around. Well done on the canny shopping. SR, I fell your pain, hope he doesn't totally wear you out..Gers, enjoy your day if you can, hows your mam doing? Rosy, escape away!

Have a good day if you can everyone, ticktock Tuesday!

  • Sun shining, for how long is any ones guess. Did the last of the laundry yesterday, so thats it till next week.

I am having trouble sleeping I wake up with my back dancing a fandango and then cannot get back to sleep again. I think we are going to have to look for a new bed sooner rather than later. I want a metal one, problem, it needs assembling and I am no longer able to do it myself as I would have in the past.

Sausage and mash tonight with some left over beans from last night.

A quick pop in from me as I've just returned from the dentist. My wisdom tooth was a bit of a bu88er to remove as it snapped off and then the roots had to come out in 2 parts, so I'm now literally battered and bruised :(. My poor dentist also had another difficult extraction before me and TBH I wouldn't like her job for a million pounds, no thank you !

    Take care all

The blustery day here turned calm and dry. The window cleaner turned up early and I've been into town and back. Took a taxi there and back so it was easy enough.

I'm now heading for a wee rest. Walking is so tiring.
