Oh i would edit that last sentence if i were you.
After 12 years, all "outstanding" will long since have been statute barred, so won`t show on your file any longer, nor have any impact on it, its the usual stuff really, pay bills on time, maybe get a creditcard and repay in full each month, sim only phone contract, that kind of thing.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. The "score" isn't a real thing so ignore it.
As for leaving debts before moving away... I'm done.0 -
1. Start by checking your three credit files. See if there is anything on there that needs to be addressed.
2. Then look at getting a credit card of some description. Use it and clear in full each month.
3. Get on the ER.
4. Ignore Martin and his credit scores (as well as anyone else who gives you a credit score).0 -
As above, ignore any reference to your credit "rating/score". Instead focus on the contents of your credit history. With past unpaid debt this will probably put you off to a bad start, but you still might be able to rebuild if you are careful about how you go about it. Start by checking your credit files from all 3 CRAs. Any defaults or CCJs resulting from your unpaid debts may be recorded there, depending if any action has occurred in the last 6 years. I'd also avoid opening any accounts with any organisation you've previously owed money to as they will be allowed to take any money you give them to offset the debt under their right to "set off". They are also unlikely to offer you new credit facilities anyway so it'd be a waste of time applying IMO. I'd also suggest getting on the electoral roll at your new address and try applying for a credit card (make sure to use an eligibility checker first), make a few purchases every month and pay it off IN FULL. Over time this should start to demonstrate you've learnt your lessons and you may be trusted with higher limits over time.0
