Rented washing machine

Hi,
I have a rented washing machine which I have had for so many years I have paid for the value of it several times over.
It has finally broken down and the company it was rented from no longer seem to exist. The direct debits are still going out though.
I now need to buy a new washing machine but worried about disposing of this as technically it doesn't belong to me. How can I trace who the direct debits are going to and also know if the company is no longer in business whether or not I can dispose of it as if it was mine?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Type the people that you rent it from in here, or maybe what it says on your direct debit?

Genius idea!
Yes, that had occurred to me and had already searched the company name and the standing order name, and also tried the Companies House website to no avail.
Seems to be no record of their previous existence which suggests it may not have been a limited company but a sole trader.
Any other suggestions very welcome, thank you.0 -
Name them and then perhaps others could have a go at tracing them.
Without a company name its only you who can search...by providing the name there will be forum users who could be in a position to advise....long shot I know but someone could have local knowledge of them maybe
I wouldn't think you are breaking any rule by naming them...your clearly looking to trace info or a forward connection....in S 38 T 2 F 50

Hi,
can your bank tell you where DD's re going?0 -
Welcome to MSE.
Standing order or direct debit?
An SO is your instruction to your bank to make a fixed payment each month. You are responsible for cancelling that whenever the contract is terminated/ debt is paid or whatever. No individual or company is requesting it each month.
An aged, broken washing machine has zero value. You may have to pay the local council to collect and recycle it. Keep a record of that 'justin case'. Send a Signed For' letter to the last known address of the company advising them of the outcome. Staple the Post Office receipt to the record of recycling and shove in the bottom of the Drawer of Doom.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Cancel the DD. If anyone asks tell them to collect their broken washing machine.0
