O/S Daily Monday 7 October 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Damp underfoot but not raining at the moment although rain is forecast for later.
Dinner last night was gammon shanks, chips, peas and cauli in a cheese sauce. Tonight we'll be having chicken and mushroom lattice, mash, carrots, peas and gravy.
Had a lovely although tiring weekend, managed to visit DS2 and spend some time with him, he's settled and happy.
Back to work today, hoping for a busy day so it makes the day pass quicker.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, hope you enjoyed your mini break.
Wet and windy this morning but not the rain we were expecting so that's good. Washing on the rack, should be dry when I get home, I'll put a white wash on when I get in. DD also gave me a bag of new baby clothes to wash, they are the next size up so no great hurry. They don't have a TD so would struggle with another load, babies generate so much washing!
The upstairs windows all got a wash yesterday, DD has the window vac which I wasn't sure helped but doing it with a squeegee showed that it does. I sometimes get lines TA but I buff them off with a dry cloth.
Not much planned today apart from a swim and work, just this week and it's half term.
Hugs to all in need, especially taff - hope you're managing to catch up with yourself.
Happy Monday, take care. XX0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It's fine at the moment but of course more rain is due. All this rain gets a bit jading!
I plan on the bus trip along the valley bottom today - it never happened last Monday! So my little list of things from the shops we don't have is still in my bag. It's a compact little town so not much ambling around to do.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need and the MIA. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Colder and raining here and set in for most of the day I think, off to work for me, lets hope the day passes quickly.
Not sure about dinner tonight there is some filled pasta or a pork fillet in the fridge so it will be one of those, the rest is frozen and I doubt will defrost in time.
We covered the garden furniture and bbq up yesterday, I think we have had our last bbq of this summer unless we have a really sunny day one weekend, next weekend we need to cut the plum tree back for the winter.
Back on my diet properly this week, was not very committed to it last week and although I did not put any more on I didn't lose any either, so back on it today, it is so very easy to put weight on and not to lose it , its one of life's great injustices !!
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Good morning from the soggy midlands and thank you for starting us off nmlc.
We had a dry day yesterday for a change and I got one set of bedding almost dry, it is still dangling about indoors and am hoping it will dry soon so that I can put it away.
No particular plans for this week. TA I find window cleaning a bit of a chore because of being not quite tall enough. I do it but I have to nerve myself up as I don't much like standing on a stool. In the kitchen I have to climb on the work surface. I did them a week or so back, they will have to wait for another clean.
Hoping that everyone has as good a day as possible and thinking of our MIAI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Hello x
Glad you had a good break NMLC :j
Its very nice having Darling Husband home - he is working at home the next two days too so double joy. Apparently my mum can tell from my voice if hubby is working at home - I'm so transparent!
DD went home yesterday her flight was bumpy - Im very worried about her so hope work will give her some focus:(
I have the doctors this morning and think I can ditch the wheelchair and rely on hubby arm and my stick - my GP will be pleased as he was concerned that i was using the wheelchair. The past week has been very progressive for me so all good.
Hope you all have a good day,
Kind regards xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Good morning from the equally soggy north east of England, following a horrible day yesterday.
We went out to a retail park yesterday because I wanted to go to a TK Ma*x, looking for a new padded winter coat, but it was no go. They had coats of course, but couldn't get what I wanted in my size without paying too much. There was some lovely stuff though.
Dh bought a new wallet, as his old, one is starting to look a bit careworn, and I bought a couple of candles. It got us out of the house for a while as well.
I'm going to the book group this morning armed with details of eating places for our Christmas lunch out - I don't think anyone is bothered about so called Christmas Fare, they weren't last year anyway. We went to a pasta place where they overcharged us, it got sorted out though.
The rain is lashing down here, but Wednesday and Thursday are forecast to be better.
Hope everyone has as good a day as they can, good to see Taff posting again
Take care folks0 -
Good morning folks, even though it’s very wet and windy outside.
I don’t think the window cleaner will be coming today. Just as well as I have two or three jobs which will take me outdoors this morning, later I have a dental appointment in the afternoon.
Yesterday flew by in a haze of sleep.Even though I’m a habitual early waker I’m not always fully rested. For years now I have an occasional ‘catch up’ Sunday when I just sleep in between comfort breaks.
All the washing I put on is now dry and put away.
DM has been fine without me though not too active. Perhaps it’s the change in the weather, she blames it on the phases of the moon.
Molly - great news about your DH and your own progress. Well done.
My day starts now. Thoughts to all those struggling. Happy Monday to all.0 -
Good morning,
I feel like I've had a busy kind of weekend which started on Thursday night, which was a works night out. We had been told to start work at 12noon on Friday, which gave us a bit of a rope to play with. After sitting watching the football with a few beers and on to the famous Albert Schloss, I was in bed for 12.30 and about £50 lighter (including taxis to and from).
On Friday, I felt worse the longer the day went on so I finished sharp, went to the SM on route home and lay burst on the couch for the remainder of the night. SM spend was around £45.
I then woke feeling fine on Saturday so I managed to go to yoga and then do a decent gym session afterwards. I then went to work for a bit to use my work computer, which is better than my computer at home, to update my CV and send it off to a job at a football club in London. Not that I'm desperate to go but if the right job comes up, I'll stick it in. Nothing to lose.
Sunday, my friends and I had planned to spend the afternoon catching up on the Xbox, so I made sure my morning was busy. I went to the gym, put the washing on, made my lunches for the week (greek chicken salad pittas) and nipped back in to work to make some final amends on my CV. Was craving something sweet for whilst I was sitting down later, so no NSD either.
As for this morning, I forgot to set my alarm so no gym this morning. I've my family coming this weekend, so I need to start early in getting the place spic and span, so that'll start tonight, too.
Hope everyone has a lovely week.0 -
Very dull, drizzly day, laod of laundry on, it will be going in the dryer.
Quiet weekend, we are sleeping later now it is not bright in the mornings, I did not wake until after 8am.
No idea about supper, will find something in the freezer.0 -
Morning all,
Wet again,DH is rained off for the moment so carrying on at home.He wants to put a radiator in the downstairs cloakroom,it's so cold in there in winter.Trouble is he can't finish the tiling until thats done.DS has gone to his own house that is being renovated to do a bit inside.
We called at my DB1s yesterday to take a jack back that DS borrowed. Not seen them for a while so that was nice, mind you we'll see them next weekend as my niece has organised a surprise meal out as it's my other brother's 60th soon but they'll be away on the actual date.
Molly glad you're improving and you have DH home.
Taff, have a hug- you've had such a lot to cope with x
Glad you enjoyed your break nmlc
Right better go DH has emptied the boiler cupboard so I have to go through it to see if there's anything to chuck
Hope you all have a good day x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0
