Car ins NCD query

Hi all

My partner has just got rid of his van and bought a car. There is a claim still ongoing from March this year on the van insurance we have just cancelled. When he took out the new car insurance he declared no ‘no claims discount’ because of this. However, the van insurance has sent confirmation of 2 years NCD he had when taking out the policy.

What should he do? He’s paid in full for the car insurance, should he tell them and see if it makes a difference? Or maybe get a new car insurance quote with the NCD and cancel the first one within 14 days (if he can?). Or leave it? It is down as a fault claim for him atm even though it’s not finished, would the van insurance rescind the NCD when it’s finalised?

Thanks

If the accident is your partner's fault the NCD will likely be reset to 0. So he was correct in putting it as no NCD.

Was the accident his fault or a 3rd party?

He reversed and hit someone. So it’s down as his fault with the van insurers. He called them to ask how much the claim was for so he could declare it when taking out the new policy and that’s how he found out it wasn’t finalised.

I guess we should just leave it then. Thanks for your reply.
