Hi all,
I'm think about buying a used Corsa. 2014, diesel, automatic.

Any idea how much fixing the below advisories might be?

Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
Central Rear Registration plate deteriorated but not likely to be misread (0.1 (b))
Oil leak, but not excessive (8.4.1 (a) (i))
under vehicle corroded
Rear rear box corroded
Nearside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
Offside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e)

Thanks in advance for any advice

    Number plate £10ish
    Oil leak - where?
Under vehicle rust - depends on how bad and how far it covers
Rear box - don't know, might last for a few more years
2x tyres - depends on the size

Based on the rust I wouldn't even consider it.

Unless it’s incredibly cheap to buy the rust underneath would put me off too..

How much is the seller asking?

Underside corrosion sounds bad but it's a subjective judgement. My 2005 Jazz had a similar advisory for 2 or 3 years but then, as my local garage packed up I went elsewhere and just recently the car passed with no advisories.

    Just cost of 2 tyres.
Cars 5+ years old have had mot failure on a Vauxhall at 6 years due to corrosion. Need to ascertain what is deemed rust, most are plated and or under sealed, was it a knock or some other reason to break the plating.

Number plate wouldnt worry, had same for 3 years until i took to a different mot place. Close on £20 have to take your log book in as well.

Rust on a 2014 vehicle? Maybe you meant to put 2004?

£2950. He said he'd reduce it further

Not cheap enough IMO. A used Corsa isn’t a rare car. I’d keep looking for one that doesn’t have an advisory for rust at that price.

Edit: a quick look on Autotrader gives you two dealer sales at 3k for 2014/diesel, there must be plenty of private sellers out there for less.

Some Mot testers seem to be worse than others, some put rust for no reason other than a small patch on say the subframe, others will ignore it, I would say it's minor, if the rust was that bad they would fail it, unless its been damaged at some time then that would explain rust, Under body is poor use to the word could mean anything they should but the area effected, you would expect rust on exhaust or certain parts of the car on 2014 but not the floor pan, the rest is cheap to fix.

I'd be wondering what the mechanical condition is like (the stuff that the MOT doesn't check on, such as the engine, gearbox, clutch and drivetrain)?
Walk away, there are thousands of Corsa's on sale.

The oil leak could be almost anything. Could cost pennies to put right if it's something like a short bit of hose, could require the engine removing if it's the rear crank main seal...

Advisories are things the tester thinks you should know. No more, no less. The car passed the test. And, of that list, all bar one of them are things that anything much more than a casual glance over the car would find anyway.
