This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Wakey Wakey (as Bill Cotton used to say).
I'm just waking up in a very chilly Newcastle, I'd forgotten about the east coast cold!
My day with friends has been refreshing and relaxing. Lunch in Newcastle was at a Toby Carvery, I've never been before so it was an eye-opener.
I'm now about to shower and dress. I hope everyone is enjoying a peaceful morning.
Happy Saturday to all.0 -
Morning folks and thanks GERS. I have been engrossed in reading nothing of great consequence on the 'net and suddenly found I had lost an hour!
Dull outside but no rain forecast until tonight. Still feels fairly mild. Not going out so it doesn't matter what it does. I had the promised bus ride to Ilkley M & S food yesterday and got some nice bits for the w/e and restocked the salad drawer using my Sparks offers. It was a bit chaotic as the till scales the check out staff use had stopped working! One poor assistant was running back and forth with everyone's loose produce (mainly bananas) to the only scale working near the self serve tills!
Today I have had strict words with myself and I must not put off making a start cleaning all the windows AND frames any longer! It plays havoc with my painful legs up and down the small steps so I anticipate numerous coffee breaks.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for all in need, TAFF and the MIA. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning All
Get wrapped up Gers! My Cousin loves a Toby carvery but I'm not a fan.
The sky is overcast but I've put washing out anyway, it'll get an airing if nothing else. At least I don't have to go trudging down the garden as the line is now right by the back door.
Cleaned up the front garden (well, it's just block paving) when I got home yesterday. The skip has gone thank goodness so I can get the car parked without having to test my reversing skills too much. I used the power washer so it looks a bit better.
Whilst I was cleaning outside 2 young chaps came (American and working for a church) asking if I needed any help. Had to laugh as they were in lovely smart suits!
Must do some shopping this morning as the cupboards are bare and also renew my car insurance, a job I really hate. I go round in circles on comparison websites just to renew with the company I'm with in the end, it's really not worth the hassle for a couple of pounds.
Meeting some work colleagues this afternoon for something to eat, I'll take the car as I'm not fussed about having a drink, takes me days to recover!
Hope you all have a good weekend, take care. XX0 -
Good morning, it's foggy here, but seems milder than it was earlier in the week.
Thanks for starting Gers, sorry to hear you're cold, here's me saying it's milder! Maybe it's just as well you weren't here a day or two ago, it was bitter.
Don't overdo it TA, window cleaning is my most hated job, though the window vac helps enormously.
Yesterday was ok, I went out for a little bit of shopping. Morries was packed, I was glad to get out of the shop. I suppose you can't expect any different at lunchtime,
I'd gone out then to check out some of the local caf! menus, I'm arranging our book group Christmas lunch. Also I had to find out if toilets were easily accessible for one or two of our members who don't manage stairs. Mind, they all do hav eeasily accessible toilets these days.
I'll see the group on Monday, they can decide where they want to go, and I'll book it.
Today, what delights does today hold? Who knows, I don't seem to!!
There's plenty to do , the trouble is I don't want to do it.
Hey ho, we'll see what presents itself.
Thinking of the MIA's, Taff hope you are coping.
It was nice to see you yesterday Nanny.
Take care folks xx0 -
Good morning
Its a bit parky here today heating now officially on ....I know I'm a wimp
Must do some serious house work this weekend partly cos its needed after a heavy work week and partly cos my plumber is coming on Monday for a service. He runs around the house checking radiators and fiddling in the airing cupboard so it has to be tidiedPipes have been a bit noisy too so I think they need a clean out
Dinner with a few friends in a lovely posh joint tonight so I'm menu gazing and teasing myself
Finally took the plunge and bought mum an alexa, will set up next week and try to teach her how to use it. I'm opening a book on how long before I bring it back home so place your bets. Hoping she will enjoy some music on it and get regular updates on her total obsession.... the weather... we shall see.
My bet is a week
Have a great weekend all0 -
Back to a cold house, had to give in and put the heating on, still on this morning but just enough to keep the chill off.
Nice to go away for a few days, but even nicer to come home, especially when you have the worlds worsted back seat drive in the passenger seat. Just cannot keep his mouth shut.......reminds me of Hyacinth
Harvest supper tonight, so no cooking today!!0 -
TA, don't overdo it, the windows won't go anywhere.
We're home again, contemplating the piles of stuff we've brought back, some to go to a charity shop, some to be binned and some to try to fit into the house somewhere, joy. It has to be done today because we have some young friends coming tomorrow to give us some baby clothes for Laura. I'll get Steve to bring the Brio train set from the loft because they have two little boys.
I also need to go to the supermarket, I've managed to cobble together a meal plan for next week after coercing some input from Steve, I get so fed up with trying to think of meals. Maybe I will go back to the way things were and have the same things on the same day every week.0 -
Hello x
Usual washing machine and dishwasher getting stronger so very pleased. DD pushed the vacuum cleaner around so place looking respectable on the surface anyway. Debating whether to get a cleaner but had such a bad experience with last one I'm wary.
Anyway darling husband is as I write driving home so hope he has a good journey. I will be so pleased to have him home and so will he!!!
DD low Im very worried about her but she back to work on Monday so give her something to focus on.
Hope you all have a good Saturday xxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
SNOOZER sadly I have been telling myself that for far too long! So needs must I'm afraid! SR I got a window vac and just can't get to grips with it, the windows end up with streaks all the way down them. I have had numerous attempts with no improvement so it has been relegated to join all the other unused gadgets under the stairs!!
Just waiting for the wm to finish and then I will get cracking. xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -

Need to have a good clean / tidy through and put washing away (which has been sat there all week !!)
