Is it time to switch to Capped Tariff
Options
I am thinking of switching to a capped tariff as there is a lot of talk about energy price rises. I am currently with Powergen (eON) and can save £22 by swithing to Southern Electricities dual fuel capped tariff. I wondered what MSE users thought? Right time or to late?

2 years ago in this forum there was considerable discussion on the wisdom(or folly) of taking up the British Gas fixed to April 2010 tariffs.
It generated quite strong feelings on both sides.
Then it was a gamble and now it is exactly the same - a gamble.
As far as I am aware nobody who took up a fixed/capped price offer has lost by doing so; but of course that is no guarantee they won't lose in the future.
The main point in favour as far as I am concerned is that the penalty clauses for leaving a fixed/capped tariff are not punative.
My advice would be take the gamble and go for a fixed tariff. However having bet that England were certain to qualify for the European finals, I would treat my advice with caution.0
