Hi
Treating ourselves and popping over to France for the day.
Just wondered if anyone can recommend some good bargains on general food/wine or other bargains at Cite Europe please?

Thanks in advance!

Just wondering why you chose Carrefour ?

There's an Auchan not far, not really sure who is the cheapest.

Do you have a dishwasher ?

What what price for tabs do you pay ?

Just a day trip you going for ?

They have 2 days left of the wine fair for the wine.

    Drink tea/coffee ?

Hi, just thought of Carrefour as that's all I remember being over there. I remember Auchan now you mention it, didn't know there was a wine fair on though, thanks.

The wine fair at E.Leclerc was due to commence last weekend. I don't know if they have a store in, or near Calais.

Please do post upon your return. I would be interested to know what you found worth buying and where savings are made. I thought the days of going to Calais to shop and save were long gone. Hope you can prove otherwise.

Majestic wines are pretty much next door to the Auchan. If you want wine they are usually reasonable. Much cheaper than the U.K.

Haven't been to Cite Europe for a while, but the best bargains usually seemed to be at Hugo Boss. There are some good homeware stores too, just remember that sheet, duvet cover etc sizes will be European not British.

As for shopping, the are loads of wine places around Calais. There's a pretty good one near Cite Europe. Personally I like the wine section at E Leclerc near Boulogne, but that's a bit too far to go just for shopping (Boulogne itself is worth a visit though).

If you don't mind a 15 or so minute drive out of Calais, there's an excellent wine shop in the pleasant little town of Ardres: http://www.boursot.co.uk/ - the owner is very helpful and (I believe) is Anglo-French so speaks English. He does a lot of trade in people buying for wedding receptions who want some advice about what wine to serve, but it's also a great place to just buy some wine to take back.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

They are still a thing - but whether they will still be so after the 31 October is anyone's guess. We could be back to old limits of 1 litre of spirits.

Don't know about any bargains, although the wine seems to be a few euro cheaper, but can you get me one of those big custard flans please? :D

Not long come back from a road trip around Europe i would recommend the likes of Lidl, Netto and Aldi.

In Netto we bought bottles of Chilean Cabernet Savigion for 3 euros lovely wine as well, we also got bottle of Prosecco 12% vol for 2.99 euros

All good stuff from Netto and the German Beers we bought were really good only 4 Euros for 6 bottles yet £2 a bottle in UK

Lidl and Aldi also half the price of the UK but don't make the same mistake we made and decide to go back for more our last day on a Sunday to find them all closed :rotfl:
