FedEx invoiced me for £120 "duty/tax" charge with wrong Freight Charges

Hello,

I received an invoice today showing wrong Freight Charges of £350 when the total cost of goods is less than £130. This parcel arrived from China with cheap items in it.

I have phoned in Fedex CS support and been advised HMRC made this mistake and they are saying Fedex picked this up and should have corrected this mistake at their end? So I have been left in a limbo with nowhere to go. The parcel is only worth £130 so how come £350 charges been applied to it. Fedex is saying there is no shipping cost disclosed on parcel but I r I received lots of other parcels from other couriers with no issues ever but with Fedex this was my first experience. These charges should be absorbed by Fedex who picked this parcel up and delivered it for not putting correct details on as you knew the charges right from start to end? Should it not be the case? I am stuck with heavy £120 bill for customs etc

Any help would be much appreciated. ?

Thanks

So you think Fed Ex should absord the duty/customs/vat on your imported goods.

There is at least one of these posts every week where people fail to realise the implications of buying from abroad.

You should of had an invoice or receipt from the supplier of the goods. This should state the shipping charges. Supply this to FedEx and ask them to correct their mistake.

    It's not FedEx's mistake.
  • I’ve had the same issue twice now. If the shipper doesn’t state the shipping charges they apply a shipping charge from an unpublished rate card. In my case the value of the items was US$20 and it weighed about 100g and they applied a £90 shipping cost and suggested I owed them £32 in taxes. This is not about avoiding taxes - I understand the law - but FedEx are applying arbitrary shipping costs, ones which no one has paid, and calculating tax off the back of that. I’ve been asking them to give me evidence someone paid £90 in shipping but they seem to think it’s my job to show them otherwise. The recipient is the only person who doesn’t have access to shipping costs - they have the correct ones on their system. Unbelievable. Rang HMRC who said to pay and then claim it back as it’s clearly wrong

The duty rates are clearly available online - https://www.trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/sections

It's not the fault of Border Force or FedEX if the supplier did not put a value on the parcel.

You've quoted the OP which was posted on 4th October and the poster hasn't been back since.
