If I complete CBT, am I right in thinking I can get on a bike with a provisional car licence that includes A category? :)

I am trying to workout costs of owning a L plate motorbike that is less than 125 CC.

30-35 years age, new to motor driving.
What the cost of insurance might be for a rural area in Bedfordshire during the provisional period?
Fuels costs for riding around 75 miles per week?

Thanks,

    Go ask a meerkat.

Minimal. Probably less than a fiver.

75 miles a week and you could consider a decent e-bike, especially in a rural area where you won't feel you have to try and go at 33mph to avoid being run over.

Join British cycling for the insurance cover, and you get 10% off at Halfords and a few Cycle shops.

Thanks Adrian. My provisional car licence says AM and A on the back.

That chart you linked means, I cannot ride any bike until CBT, theory and practical? :o
Or Am I misreading the chart? :(

So there y'go. You have provisional bike.

    You are.

    AM is <50cc
    A1 is <125cc.
    A2 is 125cc -> 35kW power.
    A is any size/power bike.

    So for A1...
    You have a valid provisional.
    You need a CBT.
Then you can ride with L plates.
    You need to pass theory.
Then you can take Part 2 test.

Just got my CBT! Yay. :D
    Independence, finally. :o

Now, have to lay my grubby hands on a good used 125 CC bike... Have to think about rain, cold, safety gears and riding shoes.

    :)

    Congratulations!

Watch out for car drivers, read loads of reviews on the different bikes before buying, especially owner reviews, get yourself some good winter gear and remember to wear good gear all year round, buy an alarm and locks, if you drop your helmet buy a new one (never buy second hand as you only have one skull). Keep on top of maintenance as you only have two wheels keeping you up!

After a few months of riding contemplate putting in for your theory and test or just keep doing CBTs, not sure if they limit the amount you can do before having to take your test it's been several years since I did my CBT :D

    Enjoy your new found freedom.
