Free firewall for Vista

Hello,
Have been searching for info about free antivirus software and have picked up some good info from various discussions on this great site. An attempt to download one ended in discovering that the Vista version is coming soon. Does anyone have any idea if there are any other freebies available for Vista at present? Far from being a techie, far, far, and this is a Japanese computer...meaning that it is all in Japanese, so there may be a few hitches. But still, I am willing to have a go. Many thanks.

Well the only 3 free ones I know of that are Vista compatible are
Comodo,
PCTools firewall
and
zone alarm
These are in English but don't know about Japanese0 -

Vista already has a firewall, and if you have a router you've got a hardware firewall as well, why have another? That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Anyone know good free anti virus software for vista basicIsn't the knowledge that comes from experience more valuable than the knowledge that doesn't?0

I would trust the Micro$oft firewall with absolutely nothing. It's a vast improvement on the XP one, but that isn't saying much
Unfortunately, the outbound filter in Windows Vista is virtually turned off by default, and it is nigh on impossible to manually configure it to block malware making outbound connections.
As for a hardware firewall, they too only block incoming connections, which means if you have a piece of malware installed it will broadcast it's presence to the world and his dog, if that is what was designed to doAnyone know good free anti virus software for vista basic
Try AVG orAntivir0 -
AVG from free.grisoft.com - make sure you download the FREE version!itsarichmansworld wrote: »Anyone know good free anti virus software for vista basic
It's a good program and free to individuals - I've used it for years and installed it on several Vista computers and it worked!0 -
Avast is working well for meIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

Avast is an excellent anti-virus program, as is Zone Alarm firewall, i have used these for 5 years together and not had a single problem. Comodo firewall is a bit pop up friendly for my liking.0
