Can someone recommend a good travel insurance for the USA

Hi all, was about to purchase my medical insurance from Travelinsurance4medical, when a kind poster pointed me to the thread on Tif which they are part of.

So, can anyone recommend a trustworthy travel insurance provider for pre-existing medical conditions please?

4 years ago I took out an annual travel insurance with Saga, with pre existing conditions for both my husband and myself. It covered USA, cruising and anything non-dangerous sports related.

Unfortunately I had a cardiac arrest whilst on the cruise bit of our holiday, and ended up in hospital in Miami for 10 weeks with a minor op, 6 weeks in icu (in a coma!), and 4 weeks in normal ward, physio etc.

Saga were absolutely brilliant and dealt direct with the hospital for the medical stuff, then with my family and eventually me once I was back with it for the holiday bits, extra hotel for my hubbie etc.

They also arranged for medical staff to fly out from Uk to accompany me home on a normal flight, but in business with beds, oxygen etc (I could just about walk by then!), and finally my transfer to a local nhs hospital here in the uk.

No hassle at all. The medical costs alone came to over $1m!

You don't want to skimp on insurance for USA. Medical bills are very large there.

We used AXA bought through American Express for a trip to Canada.

Columbus Direct were great when my wife broke her leg in New Zealand. I couldn't say how they are with pre-existing conditions.

Was your £307 quote from Travelinsurance4medical or someone else?

Have you read the MSE guide?

Yes was with Travelinsurance4medical I've been warned off them by someone else, thanks for your concern though, much appreciated.

I got quotes from loads of companies, and Saga was still a good £400 more than the rest. Allclear and Staysure were both in the low £400 and both of those are on the MSE link you posted.
