Several months ago I was quoted 8k to do some roofing and building work. It was estimated the job would take 4-6 weeks.
The work started in May and still hasn't been finished, although there are just odds and ends left to do. It has been done to a satisfactory standard but it has taken over 5 months, not 4-6 weeks.
Because of that, do I have a right to argue for a deduction from the final bill?

Almost certainly not unless such a clause was contractually agreed. Why would you think that you do have any such right?0 -
Is there time a "time is of the essence" clause in your contract? This would be where you told the contractor that the work must be completed by a given date.
If not, then the contractor is not obliged to finish the work by a certain date, even if he did say it would be just a few weeks.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
