O/S Daily Thursday 3 October 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, air is chilly but dry underfoot, hoping for a crisp sunny day - yesterday was lovely but then clouded over for a while and then sun broke through again, it's been a chilly night so we've had the heating on. It's now too warm for me, so once the menfolk have left for work, I'll be turning it off again!
DH and DS1 now getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Dinner last night ended up being a last minute takeaway - as we were late coming back from the funeral we went too. Dinner tonight will be LO's from the fridge to use up as much as possible before food shopping tomorrow, we're going away Saturday morning and coming back on Sunday so not so much food needed this week.
Funeral was a strange affair, but pleased we went to pay our respects.
I have all the normal "to do" list - so will be cracking on with those today, I'll be heading into town first thing to visit the bank and building society.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc.
Yesterday was glorious after a heavy frost, I had to scrape the car, but the sunshine was amazing and not a cloud in the sky all day.
Today looks to be similar but I've no washing to put out, not enough for a load of anything.
My builder friend came last night as I thought I had rising damp, he checked the cellar which is damp but no worse than it's been since I've been here and nothing to worry about. He will probably put in another couple of air bricks and then I can stop being paranoid!
Went for a cuddle with the baby on my way home, she's doing well but slept throughout my visit!
Hope your tongue is settling tru, sounds horrid.
Yay on the hip op Gers.
Have a good Thursday, take care. XX0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Yesterday was glorious and though today isn't forecast quite as good we do have sunny intervals promised! Sadly the rain will be back tonight!!
The two younger DGDs were here for supper and sleepover last night after ballet so they will be to rouse, feed and water shortly. I have a reprieve tonight as they are all going to the theatre and will be quite late back so DD will take them straight home. No Bolognese Bake to make today!! They are a bit miffed about missing it! I'm sure they would have it every day.
I should have been shopping with DS this morning but I had a phone call last night postponing it. They want him in work 8 till 8. All their jobs are up in the air with rumours the place is shutting down in the new year. I don't think he will be too sorry as morale has been very low there since the business was taken over earlier this year.
As far as shopping goes there is nothing I am stuck for so that can wait till the w/e.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Thinking of TAFF/ Hi to absent friends. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Very cold here and rain due later, no central heating yet but I will light the fire tonight if its still chilly. Spag bol for dinner I will have my mince with a sweet potato and OH will have spag, I need to shift the weight I put on while away so will keep going for a while.
Work was ok yesterday it was nice to see everyone but its made my mind up that I dont want to work full time anymore, also I have had no foot pain at all while away and within an hour of going in it started again and I was in severe pain by the time I got home, we are standing all day on a really hard floor so I think its that aggravating it, Im sure a four day week would help !!
There is still washing to put away tonight and I will have a sweep through.
Gers Im glad your problem is being sorted, and I cant believe how quickly its being done, you would wait months here !!
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Morning all.
It's a chilly start here, only 2 degrees outside. I'm still under the duvet waiting for the heating to click in.
I've got DM's fridge stocked up for her and opened all the containers which defeat her. Those tubs of soup are really difficult.
Once the cleaner arrives at 10.30 I'll be off down to Durham. The funeral is at 3pm so I've plenty of time. I'll do a quick pit stop at my 'favourite' service station at Annandale Water. It has a lovely man made lake which gets crammed with all manner of wild fowl, from huge swans to tiny ducks. I used to walk round it each time, I will again next time.
TA - I'm agog waiting to learn what you chose from the menu, but you didn't say!
Redruby - your poor feet. I'm sure that part time will help you all round.
Camelot - great news about the riding damp. I know you were worried about it.
My mood has lifted somewhat since Tuesday. :j I've been reading up about what to do before and after the op. For me, the worst thing will be having to sleep on my back for a while. I'm sure I'll hate it though I hate the pain more. Swings and roundabouts.
My bag is packed so I only need to feed DM this morning. My thoughts are with all those missing and struggling. Happy Thursday to everyone.0 -
Morning :hello:
I'm glad you're getting your hip sorted Gers xx
RosyRed The lump can pop? Not looking forward to that, hopefully it won't happen
nannywindow Welcome home!
camelot My tongue will probably stay swollen for a few more days, I've got used to it quickly so it's not bothering me really. I'm struggling to eat grapes though, it's very messy
Yesterday, the deliveries were here by just gone 9am and the weather was quite nice all day so I managed to get quite a lot done.
The sky is a weird colour – purpley grey and orange. Looks amazing! It's very cold at the moment, not sure what the forecast is for the day. I'm not going anywhere today, apart from our walk, so I'll get a couple of loads of washing done and do a bit of filing. We're going away on saturday and I want everything put away before we go. Might enjoy some chocolate this afternoon, while watching Good Witch.Bulletproof0 -
Good morning everyone,
Yesterday was glorious. Not in a cloud in the sky all day but was still quite nippy and leaves have began to fall. Shame I didn't get the chance to make the most of it in anyway as I was in the office. I did nip out to yoga (£2) at lunch, mind you. Stayed late in work, headed home and had a catch up call with my mum and gran. I got a job notification for a job in London that I'd love. Although I'm not looking, I think I'll stick my CV in nonetheless at some point in the next few days, when I find the time.
Total Spends - £2
NSD - 1/17 (because yoga is all budgeted for)
I managed to force myself up this morning and go to the gym. I spent most of my time doing my exercises/stretches that the physio has prescribed but needs must. I've got a work night out tonight to watch the football and get some food which will be nice. No idea where we're going, so don't know what the spends will be but, as ever, I'll try not to do it. Especially on a school night.
Gers - Safe travels.

Hello x
Usual OS tasks done although DS3 took over the dishwasher as I was in real pain - It a slow recovery still i get a bit stronger every day.
Husband coming home Saturday so very pleased:j Life is not the same without him x
Waiting for DD to wake up as she has big bed atm - I sleep downstairs as Im awake a lot in the night - then I can do my ablutions. Going to put a wash on and hang it on the heated airer.
Hope you all have a good day kind regards xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Gers, I hope the funeral goes as well as these things can. I wouldn't be able to sleep on my back very well either.
Camelot, I'm glad the damp problem wasn't serious.
Redruby, ouch, I hope you can sort out the reduction of hours.
Steve has gone from touching up the floorboards in the living room to a full re-finish so we're in a bit of turmoil, he has to finish today before the new settees arrive tomorrow.
Steve's starting to panic about the amount of work to do but that's because he has been adding in all sorts of things that don't need doing. We're going home tomorrow and will spend next week there.0 -
LOL GERS on paper it doesn't sound so exciting! It was a new menu at the coffee shop with one or two things taken off and one or two new things replacing them. The Broccoli Bake is still on there so my DF chose that. I was tempted by the new addition of scampi. The chef there cooks everything to perfection and this was no exception. Perfectly cooked chips, perfectly cooked scampi and even perfectly cooked garden peas! Her cooking could put lots of restaurant chefs to shame.
With no DGDs back for tea and sleepover, no Bake to make and no shopping trip in store I am dithering with the idea of bringing the Friday Tidy forward a day. Another coffee maybe and then will make a decision! But I must sweep the patio at some point, I don't know how the birds manage to throw so much seed and husks around.
Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Just sat here waiting for some shopping to be delivered. I woke up to the smell of bacon cooking only to find that Phoebe had used the last few slices of bread so I am waiting for some more to come in the shop and then I too will have a bacon sarnie.
All the kids are home at the moment but Phoebe will be leaving for work at 10 and Lee has a late start in college today. Lilly is supposed to have work tonight but I am a bit concerned as she is not very well with a sore throat and cough. I'd rather she stayed at home and rested up but she won't listen to me I'm sure.
I am cooking a gammon joint in the slow cooker for dinner tonight. It has been soaking over night so just needs to be popped in the cooker.
My friend's daughter is coming to see me this morning with her 10 week old baby boy to say thank you for the clothes I bought him but really so I can have baby cuddles:D:D. It's been a few years since I cwtched such a small baby so I am looking forward to it very much.
Sounds like Tesco is here so I will love you all and leave you. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0
