You could consider a good spec laptop, then add a monitor to come across colour accuracy problem.

How much is a big screen that covers 100% of sRGB?
One can easily pay £500 for that alone; https://www.amazon.co.uk/BenQ-PD2700U-Monitor-Graphic-Percent/dp/B07GLR6RQF0 -

My architect friends used to moan about the screen size of laptop in uni
Never heard them saying any anything on colour accuracy.0 -

I would suggest that a wide colour palette is useful in Architecture, Design and with PhotoShop. The fact that she suggested a laptop costing £1500 suggests that it is not a run of the mill laptop that is wanted.
I guess because this thread is being interlinked with a previous thread mentioning PhotoShop and Photography.
It may be that colour accuracy is not as important to this student. Perhaps the OP will come back with some feedback from her daughter.
Either way, I would still suggest similar specs. It you are going to get a 4k screen and will work with photographs, design and PhotoShop, you might want a High Fidelity device.
I certainly don't disagree with the suggestion for a large standalone monitor. These are things that should be discussed with the student and the student with their faculty.0 -

If your going to talk the talk, then get your technology correct, 'high fidelity' has sod all to do with graphics, if this OPs daughter is going to be doing architecture and design, they do not need a full colour gamut, they need a computer that will run CAD and possibly solidworks or blender or some other 3D rendering software. if in the future they need accurate colour reproduction, then I would suggest a large monitor and a calibration tool, in fact I would suggest they get a monitor anyway so they can work dual screen at home.0 -

I [STRIKE]think[/STRIKE] know you missed the point in your rush to try to score a point.
Earlier I drew parallels between a high fidelity sound system(speakers in that case) in being able to reproduce a wide range of sound and a monitor in it's ability to reproduce colours.
You can read it here; https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/76344388#Comment_76344388
So I drew on that earlier to comment to describe the device as being "high fidelity', so that the uninitiated could understand more easily.
No need for me to blind with science.
You may have also noticed that CAD has not been mentioned by the OP, but PhotoShop has.
So perhaps best to wait for more information, if you want to talk about CAD.0 -

Lol missed the audio comparison,. If they are doing architecture they will definitely be using CAD, I still reckon high end laptop is overkill.0 -

I'm suggesting keeping costs down as much as possible, whilst getting something that won't need upgrading should the need arise.
Best to wait for more information from both the OPs and their daughters.
So far their initial budgets are £600 & £500 respectively.
But one has suggested it could be much more. I'd like to know what the OP's daughter suggested that was as much as £1500.
Might give us an idea of her expectations.0 -
I am utterly clueless, as is she 😂, I can get my head around processor, ram I've googled and I'm learning about ssd? Gpu? I don't want to spend a fortune, looking around £500 should cover it, less if a go for a refurbed one, I just want someone to say buy this it will work, and not at snail pace, there are just so many!0

She should ask her college for more details as to the requirements.
Some parts of PhotoShop will work with almost any modern laptop. But if she is likely to use all function, then discrete graphics with 2 GB of dedicated RAM may be necessary.
How large a screen? What resolution? Battery life?
Here's a example of a 17.3" Full HD model close to budget; https://mcscom.co.uk/product/dell-inspiron-g3-17-3779-black-i5-8300h-2-30ghz-16gb-256gb-nvme-ssd-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-17-3-fhd-win-10-1yr-rtb-wty-mln659/

But she might not be keen on carrying that around
So a few parameters to consider.0
