Ofgem also appear to be on the consumer's side in this respect too.
https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/article-6565209/The-problems-people-dont-want-smart-meters-encountering.htmlWhilst the law may change in the future, for now, members of the public who do not wish to have a smart meter, are still entitled to refuse the service and Ofgem confirmed that energy companies should respect their wishes.
Suppliers need to consider the customer's preferences, contact history and reasons for not previously accepting a smart meter if they are looking to contact a customer again.
So anyone affected, should re-familairise themselves with the terms and conditions they agreed to if there is any suggestion of being taken off your tariff for 'opting out', despite the fact that accepting the tariff included some level of agreement at the time.

I had no "Big Brother hang ups about Smart Meters and so signed up for one quite early on. Once the man had fitted it, however, he said that it wasn't working because we had no mobile phone signal. This hadn't occurred to me as I think that I'd assumed that the data were transmitted back down the wires to the National Grid. I was promised a signal boosting antenna but it never arrived. On the last occasion a man phoned up wanting to install the antenna but he wasn't permitted to accept my wife's agreement as I was the account holder and I wasn't present. He said that he'd phone back later but never did. I therefore read the meter myself and send in occasional readings....my supplier would like monthly readings whereas I think that 6 monthly , as for water, would be more sensible so I send in a reading about 4 times a year. I can understand that there will be customers who get into debt and so monthly readings are desirable but there must be plenty like me who have the whole thing under control and adjust the monthly payments as necessary, keeping slightly in credit.
The whole Smart Meter thing is a parable of our times ...I'll thought out and rushed through with fake promises of big customer benefits, installers cashing in by installing regardless etc, etc.0
