Hi, my son has asked for a gaming pc for Christmas. The truth is this has been all he’s wanted for the last two years.
He currently plays Fortnite, Minecraft, and others on a PS4.
I realise that self build is probably the way to go in order to keep costs low, but I’m not sure where to start. Although that doesn’t mean I’m not prepared to spend time working things out and learning how to put it all together.
I’ve been into Curry’s and been quotes over £600 for a pc but know enough to realise that they are probably charging the Earth for sub standard machines.
I guess I’m looking for the best place to start with this. Maybe s website that i could start with, or a good deal on a base machine that I could potential upgrade?
I’m just looking for any help possible really!
Many thanks!

I build my own pc, it's not difficult and you can get exactly the spec you want. I got most of the parts from Amazon, some from ebuyer. Ebuyer have a parts checker
https://www.ebuyer.com/pc-builder?pkw=build%2520your%2520own&pmt=b&mkwid=spVMDb0fu_dc&pcrid=83249216819&pkw=&pmt=b&gclid=CjwKCAjwldHsBRAoEiwAd0JybUwH2qYZAoQ_u5sKHmF-5UsV6rGjMdYSY-rev2oOMIF0h7jIRycryBoCddEQAvD_BwE
There are a lot of youtube videos showing exactly how it is done.0 -

The eBuyer PC Builder doesn't even list 3rd Gen Ryzen processors

Maybe your son could "help" you build his Christmas PC? Unless of course it's meant as a surprise for him. Just a thought, my grandson is doing just his, good experience for the futureEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

The Kingston A2000 is great for laptops and SFF, but for a Gaming PC, I would prefer https://www.xpg.com/US/feature/583

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07K1HMMJC/ref=twister_B07RPNXHVD

Pick A2000 purely because they are at similar price as m.2 sata ssd.0 -
From a budget point of view the Ebuyer suggestion includes Windows 10 otherwise you need to source a copy and if you have to buy it it could be another £100. You can also make sure you remove MS Office from the Ebuyer selection. Plus if you don't have them you will need a monitor, keyboard and mouse.
If you are interested in the 3rd gen Ryzen processor, Ebuyer do have them so you could ring them to see when the are going to include them in the pre-build bundles although for a Ryzen 5 and as an example you could be looking at another £70.
You could also look at https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/ who will build a custom PC for you.
Currys sell a PC Specialist Vortex for £729 but configure it yourself on their web site and its £676.0 -

Of course you should eliminate both, even on the PC Specialist website. Ridiculous when you can obtain a Windows 10 key for a few pounds in order to install it yourself. So that alone wipes at least £90 off the price of the build.
I don't know why you would suggest they would pay £100 for Windows 10. Never in a month of Sundays...0 -

Only £10 difference between them. £70 for 512 GB module is not far off and the model should have a heat-sink included. Again, something more suitable for gamers.
Whether you use it may depend on your particular set-up.
Example here;

For something the same price as the Kingston, you have the Sabrent Rocket 512 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive 512 GB
But I would spend the extra £10 on the ASX8200PNP-512GT-C, if going for a 500 GB+ option in a Gaming rig.

Check out fiercepc.co.uk also. Their pricing is somewhat good.0
