McDonalds Parking Fine, company meeting

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone can help.

Recently our local McDonalds have gone Live with the parking cameras, max 90mins, unfortunately I spent 104 minutes there.

Now my next step is to pop into the restaurant and speak with the manager. If this fails and I have to pay then I'm wondering if my company with pay me back?

We are a group of engineers who meet here regularly for a breakfast meeting (food and drink is claimed back through company expenses). It was our Technician who organised the meeting (venue and meeting time). Now our company are very strict with parking fines and we have to pay them. But my argument is, 1 I didnt organise the meeting, 2 I didnt have a choice in the venue, 3 Its a company meeting within company time, 4 I have no control of how long the meeting will last and 5 at no point did a member of my team advise me of parking restrictions.

Any information on 'fighting my company, management' for my £60 back?

Thanks in advance.

    Have you paid anyone £60?

    Who is the parking company?

Is your car a company car? Lease car? Hire car?

Oh... and there is no fine. Just a speculative invoice.

It is not a fine, it is an invoice from an ex clamper for compensation for the alleged harm you caused them, aka a scam. Pay them not a penny unless so ordered by a judge.

Nine times out of ten of these tickets are scams so consider complaining to your MP.

Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, many of whom are former clampers, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.

Hopefully life will become impossible for the worst of these scammers, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking Companies
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.

OP, have you based your forum username on your real name?

If so, you would be well advised to get your forum username changed to something completely anonymous.

To do that, you might like to read this short extract from The MSE Forum Guide - Frequently Asked Questions & Rules:
    Q. How can I change my username?

    A.
In most circumstances, this is not permitted.

The only reason we will change your username is if it puts your privacy at risk. This usually means you've inadvertently registered using your name, email address or something that gives away your identity within your username.

If you fall into this category, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com and request that it is changed, giving three alternative usernames in order of preference.
  • I haven't paid yet.

There is a picture of my van parked.

    Yes it's a company van.

Sorry I cant remember the company as I'm not home with the paper right now.

As already said this isn't a "fine"

I would imagine where you park your vehicle is your responsibility, and I doubt this was an official meeting organised through McDonalds, but surely you weren't the only one caught by this.

No one on here will be able to tell you what your company will do.

Why do you think If talking to the manager fails you have to pay anything to a scamming car parking company.

Surely you are good enough customers to sway the site in your favour, they will be able to whitelist their own cars so should be able to cancel your charge on their propery.

Your company should understand that is your right to appeal the charge

I would contact the CEO, IT WON'T BE THE FIRST TIME

Paul Pomroy is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President of McDonald's in the UK.

    McDonalds state this

"Can you provide information on any parking policies in your car parks?
In an effort to make sure there are always parking spaces available for our customers, we have parking restrictions in place at our restaurants. These parking restrictions are managed by one of two industry-approved operators, MET Parking Ltd and UKPC. The restrictions were put in place following problems ranging from minicab drivers using our car parks as waiting bays between fares, to people leaving their cars for several hours while using nearby amenities.

There some instances where (upon agreement) this time period could be extended. For example, if you are visiting one of our restaurants for a special occasion like a children's birthday party and expect to exceed the stated parking limit we would ask that you make yourself and your car registration known to the restaurant manager upon arrival.

If after this you still want to use them for a meeting, confirm with the manager or use Costa or Starbucks

Unfortunately they use two of the worst scammers in the parking industry ....... MET Parking Ltd and UKPC
