    Have you registered with TPS?

If you are a cusstomer & they cold called you about having a "smart meter" then they are obliged to do this.

Would you believe that I had a call from them around 6pm yesterday (less than 3 hours after my previous post). Don't know who they bought my number off, although my guess is a car ins co. Sent them off with a flea in their ear. So not a smart meter then obviously!

He did not say 'represent' so I have to assume it was a direct call.

Other people have asked you questions in the thread. :)

No this isn't true, no one is "obliged" unless stated in the Ts and Cs when you first signed up for the services.

I think you are mixing two things together here.

You are correct that having a smart meter installed is not (currently) compulsory. However energy companies are obliged to contact customers to "offer" one which the customer can refuse. Ofgen has guidelines about not contacting customers excessively but many of the companies are largely ignoring these guidelines.
