Overdue account with CCJ shows as late payment

Hello there,
I ran into financial difficulties a few years ago. One account fell into serious arrears. The account was outsourced to a third party for collection on the 20/01/2017 and a County Court Judgement was entered on 27/07/2017.
I have a question about how this account is recorded on my credit record. It is recorded on my credit file as an active account with the ‘late payment’ status. No ‘date of default’ is recorded (I believe it should be in January 2017. The account status is ‘up to six months late’, which has been the status that was reported every month since February 2017. This has not changed despite the repayments I have made to the third party collection agency.
This is in contrast to how my other accounts which fell into difficulty are recorded on my credit file. Those accounts have a ‘default’ status and a ‘date of default’ is shown.
Is it normal for a creditor to report the account as late payment rather than in default? My understanding is that a credit agreement automatically becomes a ‘default’ after a defined period, usually six months or so. Is that the case?

A default isn't a given, it's guidance.
You can ask them to backdate it to a default after 6 or so missed payment markers.0
