Hello everyone! Just wondering if any dog owner has any experience with their dogs being trained as an emotional support animal? I'm interested to know if it cost you anything, where and how long was the training, and the overall experience? Thank you!

I think you will find emotional support dogs are not recognised in Uk - assuming you are in UK .
Assistance dogs are normally trained and supplied by recognised organisations.

Yes, it's a US thing. One that's gone just a tad too far.

There's even an emotional support alligator. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I think you'll find most dogs give emotional support even without training!Norn Iron Club member 4730

Training's just a few weeks, I heard. But that's outside UK.0

Yup, it's more of a US thing. Although you might want to check out Support Dogs UK (that's what I saw on a quick search) if you are really interested. As for information about the training, I think this article has the information you need.0

If the owner also has a physical disability Dog Aid can help.
I've assisted in training 2 support dogs for autistic young adults.
Like any other dog a good level of basic obedience is needed, as well as a good owner/dog relationship.
A good Kennel Club Good Citizen club can help with that.0 -

I've seen various topics about it on tripadvisor, for example, here https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g1-i26969-k12014690-Emotional_support_dog_training_for_UK_travel_questions-Traveling_with_Pets.htmlI think you'll find most dogs give emotional support even without training!
Indeed, like my four-legged Sparkie. But according to Doggolab, you'll still need official approval, if you're planning to travel a lot. You can't just say "Allow me to bring this cute little doggo on board, he's such a good boy/girl".If the owner also has a physical disability Dog Aid can help.

The charity Dogs for Good also have a training programme for pet dogs owned by families who have an autistic child- it's called the 'Family Dog' proramme.
Trained community dogs also assist adults with learning difficulties.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
