O/S Daily Wednesday 2 October 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark, but chilly and damp underfoot but not raining - forecast for here today is a bit drier. Put the gas fire on last night for an hour

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was roast chicken portions, mash, carrots, cauli in cheese sauce. Not sure what we'll be having tonight as DH and myself are going to a funeral later and not sure what time we'll get back.

Work yesterday was quite quiet but now not back at work until Monday and we're going away Saturday and returning Sunday, really looking forward to a night away.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning :hello:

Welcome home redruby I'm glad you had a good time x

My head was a bit fuzzy yesterday, I couldn't concentrate on anything properly. I probably overdid the paracetamol/brufen combo a bit :D But I ate normal food and have got used to one side of my tongue beng fatter than the other, lol.

Scamp's vet visit was better than expected. We had the last appointment of the day and I went in first to make sure all other patients had left :D We had a muzzle ready but the vet wanted to try without, he had a couple of snarly moments but ended up taking treats from her. That never happens with strangers, and especially not a vet! Wish they were all like her, she understood fearful dogs completely. The lump is nothing to worry about and may even go away on it's own – I have a long explanation but it'll end up being an essay so I won't type it all out, lol.

FIL is struggling with his kitchen things, says he hates the microwave because it feels like you have to program the thing just to heat something up, the hob is awkward and he keeps burning himself on the built-in oven door. He told us what he wanted and we ordered it – I didn't realise you could get built-in ovens with a door that opens sideways, that's a much better design IMO – and it's being delivered here. He takes so long to get the door, the delivery people will probably give up and leave if we send it to his house, lol. So I can't go out til it's all arrived.

My jobs will have to go around the weather and deliveries so I can't plan anything properly, I'll just keep pottering about and hope the house is clean and tidy by the end of the day :D

    Morning All

Beautiful clear morning, the stars were shining when I got up. I have washing out as it's forecast to be a sunny day.

DD came for a walk to my work yesterday afternoon with the baby, lots of cooing and aahing, I was a very proud grannie!

My neighbour had removed the large lump of concrete from the garden yesterday so I filled the hole in, looks very different out there now, just hoping the grass regrows!

Glad to hear you had a lovely holiday RR.

Hope you're all good, have a happy Wednesday, take care. XX
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Blooming 'eck autumn has well and truly arrived. It says on my phone that it's 3 deg outside! But the bonus is we are going to have blue sky and sunshine all day!! Wot no rain!?

Yesterday went as well as these things can. In fact a bit better as we got there early in case the car parks were clogged (they weren't) and when we got to the MRI department the person before me hadn't turned up so I was straight in! A 3 week wait and then I will know what's what.

After the last two days today should be a bit more pleasurable. I am meeting my oldest buddy for our weekly catch up over coffees and lunch. (Postponed from yesterday in view of my scan) Mmm I am already wading through the menu in my mind! To put me on, now that autumn is definitely with us, I think I might have porridge and berries for brekkie.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all who need them. Thinking of TAFF and our absent friends. Welcome back RUBY your holiday sounds just the sort we used to enjoy in a different life. GINTOT so pleased your DGS can now go back to being an active little boy. Take care all xx

    Morning all

Feels very cold and damp here this morning I have a blanket over my lap, I suspect it wont be long till the heating goes on in the mornings but I will try and last till the end of October.

Back to work today so back to the old routine, it will be nice to see the clients but Im sure it wont be long before they are driving me mad again !!

Filled pasta for dinner tonight with a large salad and garlic bread for OH, I got some beautiful olive oil and balsamic vinegar while away so looking forward to trying that.

Finally finished washing mountain it just needs to be taken upstairs and put away, and I need to sweep through tonight and that will do for now.

Camelot how is your dd and baby getting on ?

    Have good days all xx

    Morning everyone

I know what you mean about autumn having set in TA, it's cold here this morning and I've got the heating on for a short time I really can't face the shower otherwise!

Today is volunteering and then a coffee with one of the other women who I have become friendly with. I'm in the office this morning organizing some school visits for next spring. I quite enjoy my time in the office there is a really nice atmosphere in there.

Dinner will be something easy when I get home, probably an omelette.

Pleased you enjoyed your holiday RR.
Gers I hope your appointment goes well this morning.
Sounds like Scampi did really well at the vets Tru. He has come on so far since you first got him :).

Have a good day everyone x

    Good morning folks.

What a good Scamp Tru. Such a change in him.

TA - are you going to have Broccoli Bake?

Camelot - well done that neighbour! The grass will come back to hide the hole.

Redruby - after half an hour back at work you'll feel as if you haven't been away.

My hospital visit also went well. Lovely surgeon who took time to listen to me as well as watch me walk, tested me and then took me to X-ray. What a shocking picture came back. No synovial fluid or space between pelvis and head of femur and the greater trochanter (sticky out bit) looking as rough as sandpaper. No wonder I'm struggling!

Upshot is I'm booked in for a hip replacement in November. I didn't want to go earlier as I have to organise things for DM and work round a friend. I'll be staying with him for a few days as he's in a bungalow.

I'm delighted. I miss walking (as in a pastime) and sleeping properly!

This morning I'm back at the dentist as one tooth has 'lost its edge'. :rotfl: Then it's time for a bit of shopping as I'm off to a funeral down south tomorrow and staying until Saturday. It's all go here, albeit very slowly.

I've got some banking to do this afternoon too. Monthly shuffling.

My thoughts are with all our missing friends. Happy Wednesday to everyone.
  • Ouch GERS no wonder you are suffering. I know what you mean about missing walking. It's hard to believe my legs once thought nothing about a 10 mile tramp over the moors and fells.

I think the Broccoli Bake has run it's course for a while GERS. As much as I enjoy it I was getting a bit boring ordering it week after week! There are equally delicious meals on the menu for a change! x

That's what I used to do. Lots of weekend walks with friends were always such a pleasure. I hope you get a good result too.

Reading a menu is sometimes so overwhelming it's just easier to choose something had before. Happy you're being adventurous.

Gers I'm so sorry, I don't know why I had got it in my head this morning that your appointment was today.
I'm not surprised that you are in so much pain! It will be good when you have had the hip replacement and can get back to walking for pleasure and to normal everyday activities pain free.
  • Good morning everyone, it's cold and sunny here.
As others are saying, Autumn has arrived.

Glad you've had a good holiday Redruby. hope work goes ok for you.

Gers I'm pleased to hear you're getting your hip replaced, I know a few people who've had it done and they've not regretted it.

Have a good day out TA, I wonder what you'll have for lunch!

Holly I like a warm bathroom too. I love getting out of the bath/shower and reaching for a lovely warm towel.

We returned from Whitby yesterday, we've had a lovely few days. Weatherwise it wasn't too bad - Sunday was terrible, but we went to Ca*tle How*rd to see the autumn fruit and flower displays, absolutely beautiful. We were there between Christmas and New year last year to see their 25 days of Christmas, that was nice too.

Pottering on today, and visiting a friend a short bus ride away.

Hope everyone is ok. I haven't caught up yet.

    Take care folks xx
