    If you pay peanuts..,
  • All I can say is since most people sort them out electronically now, signing an old school photograph is more or less consigned to history.

I haven't signed one for quite some time but used to sign them for clients quite regularly (shotgun licences too)

In all the years of doing so I have never charged for it and would not be that mercenary.

This was just a simple moral decision for me, as a police officer it is a massive can of worms Run away. Simples:eek:

should I be paid for the time it takes to dig out my passport and fill out the form?

Yes, if you are looking to rapidly reduce the number of friends you have to zero.
  • make sure if you do you declare it to HMRC. I've signed dozens over the years, what a shocking question.
  • People are supposed to help friends, but if you are going to charge then technically you’ve taken another job so you will have to register a business interest with your Professional Standards Dept..

As a Police Officer you definitely cannot charge for doing this-you cannot make money from your office of constable as it is morally wrong and leaves you wide open to allegations or temptations of corruption. Even if you did want to do this you would have to apply to your force for permission for a business interest which they would never authorise for this scheme for the reasons above. I cannot actually believe any officer whether new to the role or otherwise would ask this question and worries me as to their values and basic common sense!
