Barclays Mortgage/BarclayCard & Loan PPI

Options
Hi all,
So just before the PPI deadline arrived, I received a letter from Barclays stating that I had PPI on previously held accounts- Mortgage, Loan, Overdraft and Barclaycard that I had were between 2000 - 20005 it invited me to complete some further information online which I did and the reasons I gave was that I was genuinely unaware that I ever had PPI- this I made clear to them online.

Barclays Mortgage PPI
I received the first letter from the this week saying that the PPI taken out for my mortgage between 2000 to 2003 was not mis-sold etc. I completely disagree with this as I genuinely wasn't even aware I had it. Had I have known this, I would have filed a PPI complaint sooner because at the time I held the mortgage, I had the support of my parents so if I had got into any difficulties, I was fortunate to have been able to ask them for help.

Barclays Overdraft
This they paid out and agreed it was mis-sold given the reason I gave initially online

BarclayCard
Still under investigation

Barclays Loan
Still under investigation

My question is, because they accepted what I stated on the initial online claim form and paid out the overdraft PPI, how can they refuse it for the mortgage

Any help or advice, stories of success or not with barclays would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Because they're different products with different sales channels and processes.

    All complaints are case specific.

Oh okay, thank you, that actually makes sense.

The letter regarding the Mortgage PPI states I have three months to dispute the decision with Barclays & six months FOS. As I've said already, I genuinely didn't know I had it and nor did I need it so can I ask you, can I dispute for these reasons only and if so, should I go back to barclays or the FOS?

really appreciate your reply- many thanks

So you would quite happily burden your parents should the worst have happened?

    A weak complaint reason.....imo.

    Hey BoGof,
Completely irrelevant information but just want to clarify that potentially 'being quite happy to burden my parents' wasn't the case.
To clarify, at the time I was 20 years old. The house came up for sale in the village I grew up at a price that my parents knew would have been an investment for me. At 20 I was very apprehensive to purchase a property and without their encouragement, I probably wouldn't have done so. I worked 50 hours per week, purchased the house for 8k and made a killing when the prices increased in 2003. Luckily for me I've great encouraging parents who supported me to do something with my life as I do now with my own children

and the reasons I gave was that I was genuinely unaware that I ever had PPI- this I made clear to them online.

That is one of the weakest complaint reasons going. Almost certainly you cannot prove it and its hard to believe when the type of PPI has a monthly direct debit of its own. You would not expect that particular complaint reason to result in a success (on that point - it may succeed on other points).
I had the support of my parents so if I had got into any difficulties, I was fortunate to have been able to ask them for help.

rarely works as a complaint reason as there is no guarantee your parents would bail you out or be in a position to bail you out.

The majority of mortgage PPI complaints fail. Most OD PPI succeed. Credit card is about 50/50.

Thanks SonOf some really useful and helpful information there.

If I was to appeal it is it better to go back to them directly or the FOS

No point appealing to the bank. Refer it to the FOS. However, expect to fail. The FOS are only upholding around 25% of PPI complaints now and MPPI is under 10%. So, by all means do it but dont expect a positive outcome.
