SABA ticket, driver identified, what now?

Hi all,

My partner opened a ticket that came through the post, having paid for parking at Lewes station, but using the wrong vehicle reg in the app. I am the registered keeper of the vehicle.

She's been trying to deal with it, and in the course of her correspondence with them has identified herself as the driver.

Does she now just have to cough up the charge, or can i still try and string it out? I've checked out the Newbies guide, but don't see anything to hang my hat on.

Cheers.

LITODY

How long ago did she get the ticket? From the looks of things prosecutions are becoming more frequent however we haven't had anyone have one yet.

On the current evidence I, personally, would keep stringing it out. Whatever you do do not appeal to the "official" appeal service they nominate.

Entering a wrong VRN is regarded by some judges as a trifle, and the Law does not concern itself with trifles.

Identifying the driver is a long way from fatal, you can still contest this on contract, signs, accreditation, timeliness, documentation to name a few.

Nine times out of ten of these tickets are scams so consider complaining to your MP.

Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, many of whom are former clampers, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.

Hopefully life will become impossible for the worst of these scammers, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking Companies
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.

What next - nothing, let it time out in 6 months as it's a pseudo railway penalty.

NO-ONE would pay this. Using the wrong vehicle reg on an app is not a byelaw offence.

No need for any more SABA railway threads, although I do know of an unusual one that is following the Mags route, with assistance off forums. Completely different from this.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
