UK Power Network Cut my electric and demanding £3.3k before reconnecting
Hi All,
Im in a bit of a sticky situation between my builder and UK power Network which has led to our electic being cut and me left with a £3.3k bill.
I've had my whole house renovated and everything looks lovely but as part of the work we had to move the meter. Trusting our builder he moved the meter and when it came to getting the electrical safety certificate it got rejected as UKPN did not move the meter but instead was my builder. Now UKPN realised this they've disconnected the electricity and are demanding a £3.3k payment to dig up the electric cable all the way from the outside payment (this includes a £100 charge to put out some cones) and relay the whole cable to my property. I've asked if they can accept installments as at this stage i cannot afford to pay £3.3k upfront as all my money has gone into the property but they dont want anything but the full payment.
My builder has disappeared and im pursuing him as much as i can.
After looking into this it costs £1.2k to move the meter which I could pay (at a stretch) but at the moment stuck in a newly furbished house with no electric and no heating.
Can anyone please help and advise me????

How far was the meter moved then? I moved mine a few inches so that it fell within a kitchen base unit, without repercussions.0

Did the builder dig up the cable under the pavement? If not, why do UKPN need to dig it up?0

You may be able to save some cost by digging all the tranches yourself, and then accepting the responsibility to fill in and make good once the cable is laid.
But if the path of the cable includes a public highway, then someone has to organize the permits with the council. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
